Implementation Guidelines

Compulsory units

It is recommended that students commence their course with the CAD Introduction 1.0 or CAD Introduction to 3D Animation 1.0 units. To begin at any other unit a student must satisfy the teacher and the head of faculty of their ability to operate at the level of entry sought.

Prerequisites for the course or units within the course

CAD Introduction is a foundation unit that must be completed prior to any other CAD unit being undertaken.

CAD Advanced should be preceded by at least 3.0 units of study in a CAD unit.

CAD Intro to 3D Animation must precede CAD Advanced 3D Animation.

Arrangements for students who are continuing to study a course in this subject

Students continuing this course from the Design and Graphics Type 2 course must not enrol in any units equivalent to those previously studied.

Units from other courses

Other than for the initial change over year to the new course as specified above, no other units may be included as part of this course.

None

Relationship with other courses

The 3D Animation based units in this course duplicate content to the AIE Creative Industries (Media) Vocational E course. Students cannot get credit towards the ACT Senior Secondary Certificate for both.

Subject Rationale

The study of Design and Technology explores the purposeful use of technologies, creative processes and design solutions. Students acquire knowledge and develop skills using technologies including tools, materials, and processes appropriately, safely and competently to design and create products, systems and built environments.

The study of Design and Technology provides opportunities for students to engage with emerging technologies, make connections with industry, apply standards and practices through the development of their projects.

A design literate student will solve problems through investigation and analysis, creativity and innovation, planning and production, synthesis, evaluation and communication. Students develop insights into how design is culturally, socially and ethically constructed with an environmentally sustainable approach to a product life cycle.

Design and Technology provides pathways in a range of related fields, such as marketing, architecture, industrial design, engineering, interior design, graphic design, furniture design, fashion, jewellery making, textiles, ceramics, and technology trades.

The study of Design and Technology encourages students to become aware of factors that influence innovation and enterprise and the subsequent success or failure of a product.  The study of Design and Technology also allows students to make informed decisions regarding some professional and vocational pathways as well as developing an appreciation of design and technology as a recreational activity.
