O'DELL, Ann Phillips, 82, of 2768 Wysor Road, Draper, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2003 at the Carilion New River Valley Medical Center. Born August 15, 1920 in Snowville, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Walter Earl Blaine Phillips and Mary Alberta Dickerson Phillips. Her husband, Elder Arlie Thomas O'Dell and five sisters, Effie Alexander, Billie Phillips, Jackie Davidson, Cora Brunella, and Edith Elkins and three brothers, Edd Phillips, Phil Phillips and infant brother preceded her in death. She was a member of the Pilgrims Rest Primitive Baptist Church (Delton, Va.) and was retired from Virginia Maid Hosiery Mills with over 15 years of service. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Arlie Thomas O'Dell, II and Irene Robinson O'Dell, of Bonneau, S.C.; daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie O'Dell Duncan and Roger Lee Duncan, Kathy O'Dell Millirons and Cliff Millirons, and Sarah O'Dell Hawley and John Hawley, all of Draper; grandchildren, David Timothy O'Dell, Robert Charles O'Dell, Angelica Duncan Edney, Crystal Duncan Latsch, and Roger Thomas Duncan; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Basil Phillips, of Pasadena, Md., and C. B. Phillips, of Fredericksburg, Va. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski with the Rev. Bill Edmonds officiating. Interment will follow at the Moore-O'Dell Family Cemetery, Hiwassee. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the Bower Funeral Chapel, 1631 Bobwhite Blvd., Pulaski. Flowers will be appreciated or memorials in her memory may be given to the charity of choice. Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski is handling the arrangements.

OLINGER, STEVEN LEE, 42, of Christiansburg, departed this life on Tuesday, December 11, 2001, and celebrated his 43rd birthday on December 12th with his mother in Heaven. Steven was a well-known Bail bondsman and private investigator in Southwest Virginia. Steve was born on December 12, 1958, in Roanoke, Va. to S. Dutton and Charlotte Price Olinger. He was preceded in death by his mother and his brother, Jeffrey Walton. His two grandfathers, Hugh Dutton Olinger of Blacksburg and Robert L. Price of Roanoke, also preceded him in death. He is survived by one daughter, Alexa Brooke; and two sons, Nicholas Justus and Alec Steven. He also leaves behind one brother and sister-in-law, Daniel and April Olinger of Blacksburg; sisters and brother-in-law, Sherry Olinger and Andy DeMaury of Christiansburg and Kimberlee Olinger Padgett of Roanoke. He is also survived by his fianceĊ½, Bonnie Woolwine and her three children, Jenna, Braeden and Brandon, all of Christiansburg; and three nephews, Michael Christopher and Adam Blair Padgett and Ty Olinger; and one niece, Tessa Olinger; grandmothers, Naomi Olinger of Blacksburg and Thelma Price of Roanoke. He is also survived by mothers of his children, Jeannie Edwards Olinger and Lynn Thomas Young, all of Christiansburg, and many special uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. The family will receive friends Thursday, December 13, 2001 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Horne Funeral Home and at all other times at 495 Southview Terrace, Christiansburg. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 14, 2001 at St. Michael Lutheran Church, Merrimac Rd., Blacksburg. Pastor Lynda Mitchell, Pastor Fred Hodges, the Rev. Dennis Hutchison and the Rev. Mike English will conduct services. Arrangements by Horne Funeral Service, Christiansburg.

OSBORN, John Alford, 85, of Blacksburg, died peacefully on Friday, August 11, 2000 at Montgomery Regional Hospital with his immediate family at his side. He was a physicist, a lover of French culture, master chef, gardener, former technical adviser to the U. S. Congress and a steadfast friend, an independent thinker, witty conversationalist and insightful adviser to those who knew him well. Born in Lawrence, Kansas on June 18, 1915, he won two college scholarships in physics, graduating from Kalamazoo College, Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1936 and earning his masters degree in Physics at the University of Syracuse in 1938. While pursuing doctoral studies at the University of Michigan, he was called to Washington, D.C. in 1939 to help the U. S. Navy devise anti-mine magnetic devices to protect U. S. shipping interests during World War II. He was joined there by his wife, Martha, a pianist and graduate of the University of Michigan school of music. After the war, he moved with his family to Pittsburgh, Penn., where he directed a highly regarded magnetic materials research laboratory for Westinghouse Electric Corporation, receiving at least one Company award for the patents awarded under his management. He was co-founder of the International Conference on Magnetism and Magnetic Materials and co-founder and editor of the Journal of Applied Physics, Magnetism Proceedings. He travelled widely to meet with leading scientists in post-war Europe and Japan. Moving later to Serverna Park, Md., he was a senior adviser to the U. S. Office of Technology of Technology Assessment and later a consultant to the U. S. Department of Transportation. While there, he was an advisor to the Alaska delegation on transportation and was especially proud of his association with the Artic Institute of North America. His lifelong love of France took him to that country repeatedly in a professional and private role. He embraced microcomputers and the Internet before they were popular, and was a modern problem solver to the end. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Martha Bailey Osborn; his sister, Frances Gibson of Jamestown, N. Y.; their three children, John A. Osborn, Jr. of Harvard, MA, Janet Oakley of Bellingham, WA, and Bruce-Erik Osborn of Los Angeles, CA, and their five grandchildren. A memorial service and remembrance will be held August 19, 2000 at 2 p.m. at Blacksburg Presbyterian Church, 701 Church St., Blacksburg, Va.

OSBORNE, Lynda Bixler, 51, of Radford, died Friday, June 1, 2001 in a Roanoke Hospital. Lynda was a teacher at Christiansburg Middle School and will be missed by her co-workers and students. Her love of the mountains and the ocean were exceeded only by her love for family and friends. Surviving are a daughter, Andi Ostorne, Radford; her parents, Bernard and Lucille Bixler, Richmond; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Violet B. and Michael Harris, Richmond, Bernadette and Thomas M. Rinker, Dinwiddie; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert Douglas and Donna T. Bixler, Richmond; one nephew and four nieces; also her Radford family, Guy and Donna Gentry and their children, Stephanie, Steven, Jonathan and Joey survive her. Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Sunday at the Presbyterian Church of Radford with the Rev. O. Wendell Manuel officiating. A graveside committal service will be 11 a.m. Monday in West View Cemetery. The family will receive friends after the funeral service Sunday, June 3, 2001 in the Fellowship Hall of the Presbyterian Church of Radford. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. DeVilbiss Funeral Home, Radford, is handling arrangements.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ida Ellen OVERSTREET, 72, who died last Wednesday at her home in Dublin, will be held today at 1:30 from Dublin First Baptist church with burial to follow at Dublin cemetery. The Rev. Mitchell will be in charge of the services.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Mary W. JONES, Pittsburgh; two sons, The Rev. Thomas T. OVERSTREET, Alexandria, and Noel OVERSTREET, Dublin.

OWEN, John Douglas, Sr., 80, of Pulaski, died Saturday, May 24, 2003 at his residence. Born January 12, 1923 in Bland Co., Va., son of the late Laura Ellen Turpin Owen and Burlie Royal Owen. Mr. Owen was a retired businessman in the Pulaski area, where he owned and operated the Pulaski Service Center which was known for its plumbing and heating service. He was a member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church where under his leadership the present church building was erected, and a member of Pythagoras Masonic Lodge #239 A.F. A.M. He was also instrumental in the repair and restoration of the old clock in the Pulaski County Court House many years ago. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Mallory Owen; and a grandson, Kelly Royal Owen. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Larry "Patricia" Jones of Nashville, Tenn., and Mrs. Ronald "Gail" King of Chesterfield, Va.; two sons, John D. Owen, Jr. of Forrest City, Ark., and Brian R. Owen of Southern Pines, N.C.; two sisters, Alta Owen Fagg of Pulaski, and Ella Owen Buckland of Peterstown, W.Va. Also survived by nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Aldersgate United Methodist Church with the Rev. Martha Yeomans and the Rev. Douglas Farmer officiating. Interment will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin where Masonic Graveside Rites will be conducted by Pythagoras Lodge #239 A.F.&A.M. Visiting will be anytime Monday after 2 p.m. at Thomas M. Seagle & Sons Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. The family will also receive friends on Tuesday at the church from 10 a.m. until service time. Willard Harvey PACE, 67, of 1116 Randolph Ave., Pulaski, died Saturday night in the Pulaski Community Hospital.
Born July 8, 1910, in Henry County, he was the son of the late George Peyton PACE and Lulie THOMERSON PACE.
A member of the First Baptist Church, and Pulaski Pythagoras Lodge No. 239 A.F. & A.M., he was retired from Jefferson Mills as superintendent of the machine shop.
Surviving are his widow, Blanche HINSON PACE; one daughter, Mrs. Roger Mary Blanche DEAN of Pulaski; two sons, Gerald Michael PACE of Salem and Harold Duane PACE of Pulaski; two sisters, Mrs. H.D. WEAVER of Martinsville and Mrs. Clyde JOYCE of Fieldale and four grand-children.
The funeral was today at 2 p.m. from the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Earl Bell officiating assisted by Dr. Charles D. Taylor.
Burial followed in the Oakwood Cemetery where graveside rites were conducted by Pythagoras Lodge No. 239.

Christo Bane Pack Sr., 58, of 432 Greenacre Drive, died Sunday evening in Pulaski General Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born in Wythe County, the son of the late James C. Pack and Matilda Scott Pack, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elsie Farmer Pack; one son, Christo B. Pack Jr., Christiansburg; one brother, James M. Pack, Galax; and four sisters, Mrs. Ella White, Kingsport, Tenn., Mrs. Allen Bratton, Pulaski, Mrs. Gladys Fortner, Pulaski and Mrs. Basil Southern, Elk Creek.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday- at 4 O.m. at the -First United Methodist Church, with Dr. Robert H. Duncan officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin.

PALMER, Richard A., (Dicky), 51, of Riner, died Tuesday, April 22, 2003. He was an active and faithful member of Mount Elbert United Methodist Church, where he served as steward. An avid photographer, artist, woodworker and outdoorsman, he was known for his love of animals. A cattle rancher, he had been employed as a photographer for both the Montgomery News Messenger and the Southwest Times, and more recently had been a relief bus driver for Montgomery County Schools. Predeceased by his older brother, Fred S. Palmer Jr., he is survived by his parents, Fred S. and Elizabeth Dunn Palmer; son, Jeremiah Palmer, all of Riner; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sandra P. and Junior Moye, Riner, Elizabeth P. and Barry Burbage, Girard, Pa.; a stepson, Will Vest; and stepdaughter, Amy Vest Hamm, both of Bent Mountain; numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held Monday, April 28, at Mount Elbert United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to his church.

PAMPLEY, Christy S. Landreth, 22, of Pulaski, beloved by many, stepped into the presence of the Lord on Friday, January 23, 1998, to help God teach his little angels in Heaven. She was a graduate of Pulaski County High School, Class of 1993. She received her B.A. degree in elementary education from Radford University in 1996. Surviving are her husband, Vincent Ray Pampley of Pulaski; father, Richard V. Landreth of Bristol; mother, Sue Covey of Pulaski and Rodney Ratcliffe, who raised her and considered her his own; grandparents, Simon and Darlene Covey of Pulaski, Jerry and Christine Miller of Pulaski and Vivian E. Funeral service for Mrs. Agnes MICOU PARLIER, 73, was held Sunday afternoon with burial following in Wilmington, N.C. Mrs. PARLIER died Friday night in a nursing home in Wilmington.
She was born and reared at Mt. View and she taught in the schools of Pulaski County.
Surviving are one son, Rufus PARLIER and two grandchildren, Wilmington; one sister, Miss Fannie MICOU, Mt. View.

Born in Eggleston on October 4, 1913, she was a daughter of the late John Earl and Glenna Williams Goodwin. Hilda was a member of Fairlawn Presbyterian Church and was preceded in death by her husbands E.O. Hatcher, Ed Lankford, and Thomas Parsell, a daughter, Elizabeth Marie Hatcher, and two sisters. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald G. and Nancy D. Hatcher of Ft. Smith, Ark.; two grandchildren, Andra Alain Williamson of Ft. Smith, Ark., Dina Marie Long of Lenexa, Kan.; three stepchildren, Jean Hulswit of Pottstown, Penn., Ann Donnelly of Radford, Ron Parsell of Radford; and three special stepgrandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with the Rev. Shirley Larson and the Rev. Eddie Kendall officiating. Graveside services will follow at 1:30 p.m. in Resthaven Memorial Park in Princeton, W.Va. The family will receive friends Sunday at the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m.

PATTERSON, Maceo Edward, 75, of Pulaski, died Friday morning, February 18,
2000 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He was born November
8, 1925 in Pulaski, Va. to the late John and Zephyr Lovelace Patterson.
Maceo was preceded in death by his wife, Unetta Choate Patterson, three
brothers, Billy, John and Vineyard Patterson and one sister, Margaret
Jacobs. He was a retired employee of R.A.A.P. and Nations Bank. He was a
member of the Pentecostal United Holy Church, Inc., where he served as
chairman of the Deacon Board. He was a United States Army veteran. He leaves
to cherish his memory, one son Maceo (Marie) Patterson of Woodbridge; three
daughters and two sons-in-law, Brenda (Richard) Adams of Barren Springs,
Lynetta P. (James) Martin of Portland, Ore., Dana A. Patterson of Pulaski
