Jacquelyn Lindsay SEAGLE age 60, of 33-7th St., N.W., died Monday afternoon.
Born Jan. 14, 1925 in Pulaski the daughter of the late George H. SEAGLE, Sr., she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, and an employee of Radford Arsenal for approximately 34-years.
She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Ruby LINDSAY SEAGLE BELL, Pulaski; one sister, Mrs. Herbert G. "Ernestine" HALL, Draper; one brother, George H. SEAGLE Jr., Pulaski.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the First Presbyterian Church.
Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
Visiting will be this afternoon, and the family will receive friends at Thomas M. Seagle & Sons Funeral Home, this evening from 7-9 p. m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of choice.

SELVEY, Esther Alley, 92, of 419 2nd St., S.W., Pulaski, died Sunday,
January 16, 2000 in Pulaski Community Hospital. Born December 13, 1907 in
Pulaski, she was the daughter of the late Sarah Annie Poole Alley and
Charles Whittington Alley. Mrs. Selvey was a member of the First Pentecostal
Holiness Church. She is survived by her husband, North T. Selvey, Sr.; three
sons and daughter-in-laws, North T. and Pat Selvey, Jr. of Wilmington,
Calif., Bobby L. and Naomi Selvey of Richmond, and Ben E. and Eileen Selvey
of Radford; one sister, Mrs. Howard (Aileen) Webber of St. Petersburg,
Florida; three brothers, Robert W. Alley of Pulaski, Dr. Alvin Douglas Alley
of Opelika, Ala., and Everett R. Alley of Dublin; eight grandchildren, Brian
Selvey, N. T. Selvey, III, David Selvey, Crystal Rutigliano, Pamela Seward,
Ben Selvey, Jr., Richard Selvey and Paige Selvey; thirteen
great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at
the First Pentecostal Holiness Church with Dr. C. R. Conner officiating.
Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. Visiting will be
anytime after 4 p.m. Tuesday and the family will receive friends from 6
until 8 p.m. at Thomas M. Seagle & Sons Funeral Home. Those wishing to make
memorials, may do so to the First Pentecostal Holiness Church Building Fund,
955 Memorial Dr. Pulaski.

Evelyn Lee Abell Semones, age 73 of Orlando, Fla. and formerly of Pulaski passed away Sunday, June 15, 2003 at Mariner Healthcare, Orlando, Fla. Born June 7, 1930 in Pulaski, she was the daughter of the late Columbus C. Abell and Minnie Yates Abell. She is also preceded in death by three sisters, Blanche Abell Hill, Ruby Abell Garlic, and Nellie Frances Abell, and two brothers, Ralph Abell and Arnold Abell. While in Pulaski, she had worked for the former Paul’s Knitting Mills and also Dee’s Cut Rate Store on Main Street. Surviving are: her daughter, Rhonda Semones, Orlando; sisters, Grace Abell Thornton, Pleasant Garden, N. C., Helen Louise Abell Taylor, Pulaski; brother Elmer D. Abell, Pulaski. Graveside funeral services will be conducted Friday 2 p.m. at Thornspring Cemetery, Pulaski with Rev. Dale Akers officiating. Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski and Dobbs Funeral Home, Orlando, Fla. are handling the arrangements for the family.

SEMONES, William H., (Smokey), 82, of Crigger Road, Rural Retreat, Va., passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2003 at his residence. He was born in Pulaski County, son of the late Calvin E. and Ella Frances Sifford Semones. He was the retired owner of S & C Coal Company, a farmer and operator of Smokey's Trout Fishing and a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. Mr. Semones was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel Louise "Toots" Semones; one daughter, Patsy Carol Silvius; one son, William Calvin Semones; three sisters, Savannah Minnick, Lotus Moore and Eunice Semones. He is survived by his wife, Mildred "Jean" Williams Semones; two daughters, Shirley and John Phillips of Orlando, Fla., Deborah Semones Bays of St. Cloud, Fla.; one son, Bob and Meredith Semones of Orlando, Fla.; six stepchildren, Olyvia and Herschel Goetzinger of Sugar Grove, Va., Johanna and David Nicholson of Cedar Springs, Va., Alice and Ray Main of Vero Beach, Fla., Frances and Cooper Jones of Groseclose, Va., Winston Whalen of Cedar Springs, Va., Eric and Angie Whalen of Radford, Va.; four sisters, Vivian Kimbleton, Macie Mills, both of Parrott, Va., Emily Hamilton of Dublin, Va., Mary Belle and James White of Radford, Va.; one brother, Otha and Elva Semones of Dublin, Va. Nineteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 28, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Asbury United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Perkins and the Rev. William Meyers officiating. Interment will follow in the Semones Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Barnett Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday or at the residence at any time. Barnett Funeral Home, Wytheville, Va. is in charge of the arrangements.

She was born in Hinton, W.Va. on January 19, 1934 to the late Gordon C. and Sylvia Bradberry Powell. She was also preceded in death by a son, Bruce Wayne Powell. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Debra and William Shaver, Blacksburg; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Douglas and Geraldine Sessa, Radford, Danny Epps; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Judith P. Davis, Nina and John Poe, all of Radford; a brother and sister-in-law, Jeffrey and Linda Powell, Christiansburg; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and five nieces and nephews and a special friend, Knot Cayton, Radford. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 10, 2002 at 11 a.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ira Smith, Jr. and Rev. Dewey O. Weaver, Jr. officiating. SETTLE, Louise Douglas Smyth, known for a sense of purpose and a sense of humor, died Saturday evening, April 12, 2003, in the Pulaski Community Hospital. She lived in Pulaski at 2221 Pleasant Hill Drive and was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Robert Settle. Louise was born in Russell County, Virginia on September 13, 1915, to Mary Douglas Howard Smyth and Blythe Deems Smyth. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Blythe Robert Smyth and James Myron Smyth, and one sister, Mary Sue Royall. Louise was a lifelong Democrat who knew presidents and many state officials; she was honored for her service at the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner in Richmond in 1998. She was active in the Red Cross during World War II when her husband was in European and Pacific Operations. Mrs. Settle was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pulaski as well as a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Always interested in civic affairs, she served on the New River Planning District Commission for twenty years. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Trigg Smyth of Johnson City, Tenn.; her nieces, Susan Whittaker and husband, Randall Whittaker of Tazewell, Va., Patricia Smyth and husband, Bruce Arrowood of Atlanta, Ga., Deborah Smyth of Johnson City, Tenn., and Jamie Smyth of Abingdon, Va.; great-nieces and great-nephews include Mary Blythe McPherson and husband, Graham and children, Andrew and Luke of Chattanooga, Tenn., Matthew Whittaker and wife, Chelsa and daughter, Abigail of Abingdon, Va., Patrick Smyth-Arrowood of Atlanta, Ga., Lily Marysa Smyth Gibson and Michael Smyth Gibson of Johnson City, Tenn., and Lindsay Smyth Kirschner of Abingdon, Va. Louise is also survived by her goddaughter, Laura Martin of Alexandria, Va.; and very special friend, Linda Eanes of Pulaski, Va. A memorial graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the Russell Memorial Cemetery, Lebanon, Va., with the Reverend Dr. Randy Frye officiating. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials be made to the First Methodist Church, 135 4th Street, NW, Pulaski, Va. 24301 or to your favorite charity. SEXTON, James Dean, (Jimmy), 38, of Wytheville, died Sunday, August 31, 2003 in a Pulaski Hospital. Jimmy served as a Police Officer for the Town of Pulaski for eight years and also as a Police Officer for the Town of Wytheville for ten years. He was a ember of the Rosenbaum Chapel Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lolly Sexton; a brother, Rickey Sexton; and a sister, Susan Sexton. He is survived by his wife, Christie Coltrane Sexton, Pulaski; four sisters and five brothers-in-law, Rebecca and Kari Sarkijavi, Nancy Sexton and Lewis Stroupe, Debbie and Robert Hancock, Ginger and Paul Cornett and Rodger Fitzgerald, all of Wytheville; a brother, Charles E. Sexton, Adwolf; two sisters-in-law, Toni Sexton and Sharon Sexton; six special nieces and six special nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. at the Rosenbaum Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church. There will be a private family graveside service following the funeral. Annie Belle Stowers Canter Shaddle, 82, of Austinville, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at her residence.

She was born May 10, 1921 in Mayberry, W.Va. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Pulaski.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, F.D. Canter; her second husband, Dale Shaddle; and her parents, Walter and Emma Carden Stowers.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Larry Alley of Pulaski, and Freda and Harry Edwards of Austinville; one son and daughter-in-law, Fred Canter and Mayra Cruz of Ponce, Puerto Rico; five stepchildren and their spouses, Dorothy and Art Larson of Manassas, Katrina and Rob Wareham of Mercersburg, Pa., Holly Sword of Marion, Ed Shaddle of Columbus, Ohio, and Frank Shaddle of Butler, N.C.; three sisters, Ruth Keith of Radford, Mabel Wade of Princeton, W.Va., and Fannie Stowers of Ohio; one brother, Berman Stowers of Austinville; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and five stepgrandchildren.

The family will receive friends Sunday, June 15, from 1 to 2 p.m. (service time) at the Reese Funeral Home.

The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorial donations to Trinity Baptist Church, Pulaski.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 15, at 2 p.m. at the Reese Funeral Home Chapel in Austinville. Interment will be private.

Reese Funeral Home of Austinville is in charge of the arrangements.

John Mitchell Shelburne, 49, of Pine Bluff, Ark., formerly of Radford, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2003 in Harriman, Tenn. He was the minister at First Christian Church of Pine Bluff. He taught English and Latin at Radford High School for several years. He was preceded in death by his father, John Wesley Shelburne, a daughter, Jennifer Shelburne, and a brother, LeRoy B. Shelburne. Survivors include his wife, Annelle Strong Shelburne of Crystal Springs, MS; a son, John Kelly Shelburne of Crystal Springs, MS; a daughter, Amanda Hope Shelburne of Crystal Springs, MS; his mother, Mrs. Georgia Shelburne of Radford; two sisters, Phyllis Barker of Richmond and Carolyn Estes of Radford. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 5, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Snowville Christian Church with Rev. Jonathan Webster officiating. Interment will follow in the Shelburne Family Cemetery in Snowville. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. SHELOR, ELMER B., Sgt., U.S. Army Ret.,(JACK), 81, of Blacksburg passed away Friday, February 28, 2003 at Montgomery Regional Hospital. He was retired from the U.S. Army after twenty-three years of service. He is survived by two sisters- in-law, Thelma Shelor, Lena Mae Shelor; a special niece, Kathy Bennett, all of Blacksburg; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you for the care given him to the staff at Heritage Hall Nursing Home and the Doctors and Nurses at Montgomery Regional Hospital. The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 Sunday evening at the Horne Funeral Home, Christiansburg. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, March 3, in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Jerry Sloss. SHELTON, Frank Akers, 91, of Christiansburg, Va., died Thursday, June 21,
2001, at the Richfield Retirement Community in Salem. He was born in Pilot,
Va. on October 2, 1909, the youngest child of Robert H. Shelton and Laura
Mae Akers Shelton. He owned and operated Lawrence and Shelton Store on Main
Street for more than thirty-five years, was a charter member of the
Christiansburg Life Saving Crew, a member of the Lions Club, a member of
McDaniel Lodge #86 AF & AM, and a member of the Montgomery Museum. He was a
local photographer, and his photographs are enjoyed by many. He loved the
Blue Ridge Parkway, his motor home, and picnics on "the creek." He was
preceded in death by his first wife, Edith Dobbins Shelton and his second
wife, Martha Dobbins Cummings Shelton. He is survived by two sons and
daughters-in-law, James Robert "Bob" and Jackie Shelton, Harold Gene and
Joyce Shelton; two grandsons, Robert Todd Shelton and his wife, Mary Anne,
and Roger Lee Shelton; one granddaughter, Susan Shelton Weaver and her
husband, Rick; four great-grandchildren, Steve and Michael Shelton, and
Lucas and Lyndee Weaver, all of Christiansburg. He is also survived by many
nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, June 24, at the
Horne Funeral Chapel conducted by Mr. Dennis Curd with interment to follow
in Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be
made to the Montgomery Museum, 300 S. Pepper Street, Christiansburg, Va.

A former member of the Montgomery County Moose Lodge, he was also a retried employee of the Radford Army Ammunition Plant with thirty-six years of service. The son of the late Harv Lee and Mattie Rucker Sheppard, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Lena G. Sheppard. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Maryann and Larry Whited, Radford; sons and daughters-in-law, Donald L. and Linda Sheppard, Yorktown, Va., Ronald (Buck) and Rosa Sheppard, Christiansburg; a granddaughter, Christina Sheppard, Christiansburg; grandsons, Timothy S. Pendleton, Pulaski, Va., Donald L. Sheppard, Jr. and wife, Lisa, Mt. Hope AFB, Idaho, Andrew B. Sheppard, Arlington, Va.; a great-granddaughter, Alexia Sheppard, Mt.
