The News-Review. September 12, 1902
"Mrs. A. J. SILVERS, who has been ill for quite a while, died at the home of her son, Joseph, Wednesday night. About three o'clock of that day, she became happy and asked to be raised, then she expressed perfect resignation to the will of her Father, began to rejoice in the Lord and from that time until the hour of her death, at 9, she did not cease to shout His praises. She had been united in marriage to her surviving husband just fifty years.
Her remains will be interred at Oak Chapel cemetery this evening, and the funeral services conducted by Rev. A. B. Hunter of the Methodist church.
Deceased is survived by husband, five sons and three daughters." Contributed by Gene Silvers platas@satx.rr.com

SKUSE, Dorothy Elizabeth Wallner, May 5, 1915 - March 6, 2003. Dorothy Skuse passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family in Oakland, Calif., where she had resided for the last two years. She was the oldest and last surviving daughter of Thomas J. Wallner and Pearl Bosworth Wallner, and had lived in Pulaski from the age of one year until she moved her family to Sarasota, Florida in 1955. Her father, fondly known as T.J., was the founder and director of the Virginia Maid Hosiery Mills in Pulaski until his death. Her sisters, who preceded her in death, were Virginia Wallner Rice and Mildred Wallner Weldon. Dorothy gave birth to her three children in Pulaski, and during her years here was a member of Christ Episcopal Church. A woman of many interests and talents, as well as a great social conscience, Dorothy graduated from Mary Baldwin College in 1936, and later received her teaching degree from Radford College. She was a gifted artist, who enjoyed creating things of beauty all her life. Her early interests included drawing and painting, music, acting, riding, flying, and swimming. Her children became her main focus during their growing years, but her interests and enthusiasms led her into politics and volunteer work in her later years. In 1958, she converted to the Roman Catholic Church, and remained an active, involved Catholic the rest of her life. A true humanitarian, Dorothy always concerned herself with those who were in need, especially where children were involved, and in her quiet way, offered assistance. She was an artist, a school teacher, a high school librarian, a school board member, a knowledgeable gardener, a volunteer par excellence and a wonderful and wise Mother and Friend. Dorothy was predeceased by her youngest daughter, Deborah M. Delp, who passed away in Raleigh, N.C. in December of 2000. She will be sadly missed by her son, Jeffrey Delp of Pullman, Mich.; her daughter, Ashley Delp Nackley of Piedmont, Calif.; her six grandchildren, Melissa, Liesl, James, Ned, Nathaniel and Nikolas; and two great-grandchildren, Bijan and Zadie, all of California; her niece and nephew, Cathy Weldon Coble and Raymond R. Rice of Pulaski; nieces, Suzy Rice Mott of Florida, Bobbie Rice Sullivan of North Carolina, and Martha Rice Shelton of Reston, Va.; her cousin, Jon Wallner of North Carolina; as well as by the many friends she made along life's way. Local services for Dorothy will be held in Pulaski at noon on Saturday, March 22, and will include a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Edward's Catholic Church, Washington and 7th, at which her grandson, Nikolas Nackley will sing, followed by interment at Oakwood Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are by Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski. Goodbye for just a while, my precious Mama.....I will miss you every day of my life.
