God, Bob White Blvd., Pulaski, with Elder Arnold Jones officiating and the
eulogy will be delivered by the Rev. Dr. James Martin of Portland, Ore.
Interment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin, Va., with full
military honors by V.F.W. Post 1184 of Pulaski, Va. The family will receive
friends Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Pentecostal United Holy
Church on Johnson Street in Pulaski, Va. Penn's Funeral Home is in charge of
arrangements.

W., Pulaski, Va. died Saturday evening, May 17, 2003, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Regina L. and Daniel Dean, 1605 Claremont Court, Pulaski. He was born in Bland Co. on Sept. 30, 1949 and was the son of the late George and Pearl Patterson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Sutherland Patterson. Surviving are: his children and spouses, Connie S. and Lloyd Jennings, Dublin, Dreama D. and Ronnie Reynolds, Pulaski, Sandra K. and Rick Bryant, Madison, N. C., Regina L. and Daniel Dean, Pulaski, Steven W. Patterson, Pulaski and special friend, Ginger Larew, Dublin; special friend, Shirley Taylor, Pulaski; sisters, Pauline Thompson, Tazewell, Etta Mae Conley, Narrows, Bonnie Phillips, Draper; brother, Andrew Patterson, Hopewell, Va.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. from Stevens Funeral Chapel with Rev. Delores Shelton officiating. Burial will follow in Hufford Cemetery, Pulaski County. PATTERSON, Ethel Dixon, 92, of the Pulaski Retirement Community, Pulaski, Virginia died Tuesday, April 1, 2003 in the Pulaski Community Hospital. She was born in Wytheville, Virginia on February 25, 1911 and was the daughter of the late Rush Jackson Dixon and Minnie Kincer Dixon. She was also preceded in death by her husband James Lloyd Patterson. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Pulaski where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and was a member of the Loyal Worker Sunday School Class. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Chuck Shomo, of Pulaski; sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. James L. and Sue Patterson, Jr., of Colonial Heights, Rev. Richard J. and Martha Patterson, of Morristown, Tenn., Ronald E. Patterson, of Arlington; grandchildren, James L. Patterson, III, Johnny Patterson, Tom Patterson, Jennifer Crittenden, Rick Patterson, Chuck Shomo, Jr., Christopher Shomo; ten great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Jo Patterson, of Wytheville; a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. from the First United Methodist Church, Pulaski with Dr. Randy Frye and Rev. Richard J. Patterson officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Visiting will be held at the church Thursday afternoon from 1:30 p.m. until the service hour. In lieu of flowers the family wishes that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church, 135 4th Street, NW, Pulaski, Va. 24301. The family will be meeting at the home of the daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Chuck Shomo, 142 Oakland Drive, Pulaski. Arrangements by Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski.

PATTESON, Lucille Jane, 88, of the Wolf Creek Community near Narrows, died
Tuesday, April 18, 2000 in the Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. A
lifelong resident of Giles County was born on Wolf Creek on April 11, 1912
and was the daughter of the late William Crozier and Carrie Hale Patteson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John
G. Patteson and William B. (Pat) Patteson; a sister, Virginia Madeline
Patteson. She was a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Nursing
and was a retired nurse in the medical department of the Celanese Fibers
Company Plant at Narrows after 46 years of service. She is survived by a
sister, Clara C. Patteson, Narrows; a brother, Crozier E. (Cody) Patteson,
Narrows; three nieces and two nephews; and very special great-nieces and
nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 21, 2000 at 3 p.m. in
the chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows with Rev. Kimball Jones
officiating. Burial will follow in the Patteson Cemetery on Wolf Creek near
Narrows. The family will receive friends at Riffe's Funeral Service in
Narrows, Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.

PATTESON, Robert Witten, (Bob), 79, of Narrows, died Tuesday, December 11, 2001 at his residence on Wolf Creek near Narrows. He was born in Tazewell County on October 27, 1922 and was the son of the late Robert Watkins and Pearl Ann Jackson Patteson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry Jo Patteson. He was a retired employee of the Celanese Fibers Company Plant at Narrows after 42 years of service. He was a member of Intermont Lodge #269 A.F. & A.M. of Narrows. He is survived by his wife, June Riddle Patteson; a son, Robert W. Patteson, Jr. of Narrows; a daughter, Patty P. Davis, Galax; a brother, Ralph W. Patteson, Roanoke; four sisters, Glenna Hoge, Bluefield, W.Va., Mary Stables, Narrows, Carrie Simmons, Wanda Powell, both of Roanoke; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 14, 2001 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service, Narrows, with the Rev. Kimball Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Patteson Family Cemetery on Wolf Creek near Narrows. The family will receive friends at Riffe's in Narrows Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. A Masonic memorial service by Intermont Lodge #269 will be held at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Born June 7, 1915, in Saltville, Va., the daughter of the late Harvey MCCORMACK and Isabelle CRANE MCCORMACK and preceded in death by her husband, Russell Franklin PEARCE; she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Robert w. (Becky) MELTON, Pulaski; one sister, Mrs. Mary M. HALL, Pulaski. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. from Thomas M. Seagle and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Edgar O,Dell officiating. PEARMAN, Vivian Virginia, 80, of Radford, died Wednesday, June 27, 2001 at
the New River Valley Medical Center. She was born in Montgomery County, Va.
February 11, 1921 to the late James Robert and Rose Sheppard Linkous. She is
survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Maxine and Homer Vaught of
Christiansburg, Geneva and Benton Moye of Rich Creek; two sons and
daughter-in-law, James "Buckie" and Jeanette Surface of Radford, Ricky and
Karen Pearman of Christiansburg; a brother and sister-in-law, Frank and
Lenora Linkous of Christiansburg; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren
and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted
Friday, June 29, 2001 at 11 a.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel, with the
Rev. Everette Shepherd officiating. Interment will follow in the Linkous
Family Cemetery, Coal Hollow. Friends may call anytime after 12 noon
Thursday and the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday
evening at the McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.

PENN, Maria Lewis, 92, of Pulaski, departed this life on Thursday, January
4, 2001 at the Asbury Center at Birdmont, Wytheville, Va., after a long
illness. She was born May 27, 1908 in Riner, Va., the daughter of the late
Solomon Lewis and Laura Barrett Lewis. She attended Morristown, Virginia
State and Bluefield State Colleges. She also worked in the school system of
Pulaski County as a teacher and teacher assistant until she retired in the
mid-seventies. While able, Mrs. Penn worked tirelessly in her community. She
was a faithful member of the Randolph Avenue United Methodist Church,
serving for a number of years as chairperson of the United Methodist Women,
also, serving as Lay Speaker and a member of Church Women United. She was a
founding board member of the Corbin Branch YMCA, also the T. G. Howard
Community Center. Maria was a past Worthy Matron of the Pulaski Chapter #35
Order of Eastern Star. She was a past President of the Mary White Buford
Woman's Club, a member and past President and organizer of District Three of
the Virginia State Federated Colored Women's Club. She was also a member of
the Pulaski County Branch of the N.A.A.C.P. She was a member of the Pulaski
County Democratic Party and past member of the Pulaski County Housing
Authority. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Preston Penn,
Sr., a son, Alvin Edward Penn, one sister, Alfreda Lewis Wilson, two
brothers, Harless Barrett and Earl Lewis. She leaves to cherish her memory a
daughter, Mary Penn Lewis of Seattle, Wash.; four sons, Dr. Clarence (Dr.
Paulette) Penn, Jr. of Surry Va., Lewis B. Penn of Richmond, Va., William F.
Penn of Roanoke, Va. and George E. Penn, Sr. of Pulaski, Va.; one brother,
Walter (Virginia) Lewis of Pulaski, Va.; two sisters, Constiene Lewis Horton
of Philadelphia, Penn. and Lelia Lewis King of Pulaski, Va.; 14
grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, other
relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 10,
2001 at 2 p.m. at Randolph Avenue United Methodist Church, with the Rev.
Leroy Henry officiating. Burial will be at Pinehurst Cemetery. The family
will receive friends Tuesday evening form 7 to 9 p.m. at Randolph Avenue
Methodist Church. Penn's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Nester Craft PERDUE, 73, Of Dublin Road, Pulaski, died early this morning in the Veterans Administration Hospital, Salem: He was a prominent Pulaski County dairy farmer, retired. Born September 10, 1899 in Bramwell, W. Va., he was the son of the late McClelland PERDUE and Ida CRAFT PERDUE. Surviving are his widow, Margaret Painter PERDUE; One daughter, Mrs. Carolyn P. JOHNSON and one son, Thomas M. PERDUE , both of Huntsville, Ala.; two sisters, Mrs. W. H. DUIS, Bedford and Mrs. B. E. ALLISON, Bluefield, W. Va.; one brother, W. H. PERDUE , Mill Valley, Calif., and five grandchildren. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 4 p.m. in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin, with the Rev. Hallett Hullinger and the Rev. Brett Fenwick officiating.
The body will be taken to his home on Dublin Rd., Tuesday afternoon from Stevens and friends may call there. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the Abingdon Presbyterian Children's Home, Wytheville, Va.

Brunelle F. Phillips, Sr., age 83, formerly of 419 Market Street, Salem, died Thursday in a Roanoke County nursing home. He was associated for many years with Propst Childress Shoes, a retired realtor, long-time vocalist and church musician in the Roanoke Valley area and a member of Salem Baptist Church. Surviving are three sons, Robert H. Phillips, Greensboro, N.C.; Clifford F. Phillips, Roanoke; and Rev. Brunelle F. Phillips, Jr., Virginia Beach; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 noon Saturday at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem, by Dr. B. Conrad Johnston. Burial will be in Sherwood. PHILLIPS, Edna Elizabeth C., 91, of 6592 Wilderness Road, Dublin, passed
away Sunday evening, December 17, 2000, at the Pulaski Health Care Center.
Born July 16, 1909, in Pulaski, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late
David Stuart Covey and Bessie Farmer Covey. Her husband, Kenneth Clark
Phillips, and one brother, Garland Covey, preceded her in death. Survivors
include a son and daughter-in-law, Crongie (Phil) and Sandra Counts Phillips
of Dublin; two grandchildren, Keith Allen and Linda Phillips of Taylors,
S.C., and Karen Sue Phillips of Virginia Beach; two great-grandchildren,
Tommy Phillips, and Michelle Phillips, both of Taylors, S.C.; sisters,
Kathleen Rutherford of Radford, and Virginia Atkins of Dublin; a special
niece, Leona Andrews of Pulaski; a special cousin, Jerry Covey of Dublin;
and several other nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday
at 11 a.m. at the Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski, with the Rev. Richard
Patterson officiating. Interment will follow at the Mt. View United
Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be anytime after 2 p.m.
Wednesday, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday
