Design Studio Value: 1.0

Design Studio a Value: 0.5

Design Studio b Value: 0.5

This unit precedes Unit 6: Design Realisation, when schools/teachers choose to run a year-long ‘Major Project’. Over both semesters students should produce evidence of: advanced production skills, advanced presentation of product and process, marketing opportunities and theory and a comprehensive summative evaluation. Production decisions and methods should be documented in a process journal. Students should work towards the realisation of a resolved final product over the entire year.

In this first Unit, students should not begin the production of their final major project but concentrate on in-depth designing, developing, testing and resolving design and manufacturing problems before going to final production in 6. The Design Brief for this unit could be: To make a market testable prototype of a product’. Specific details of the Brief should be negotiated with the teacher.
