Software AG, a world-wide leader in e-business solutions and a technology innovator and leader, first demonstrated connecting WAP enabled devices to existing enterprise business applications as early as August 1999. Software AG currently supports the WAP v1.1 specification and plans to add any necessary extra support for the WAP v1.2 enhancements in time for any commercial use.

During the course of the year 2000, Software AG plans to release XENON, the first complete architecture for commercial XML application. Based entirely on Open Standards it will of course encompass the current WAP standards and future enhancements.

Sonera Ltd.
Sonera launched commercial WAP V1.1 services in August 1999. Sonera's WAP service package allows customers to use WAP-compliant handsets to make account balance queries, read news, download Doris ringing tones, and make directory inquiries. In the future, Sonera will widen the scope of WAP services and will include mobile banking and e-commerce services. Sonera SmartTrust unit enables service providers to offer secure mobile services in the WAP environment. Sonera SmartTrust products and services are based on Public Key Infrastructure resulting in the highest level of confidentiality, user authentication, data integrity and non-repudiation through digital signatures; and they follow the worldwide Digital Signature legislative initiatives.

space2go is an ASP for mobile devices. space2go offers a unique synchronization and access service for personal content to make desktop PIM data from MS Outlook or LOTUS Notes available on WAP enabled and other devices. The user can upload his Contacts, Calendar and Tasks from his PIM application on the space2go website to central servers. There the data is converted into XML and WML and accessible with any WAP device. A basic version is available for free. The premium version with email, file handling and true synchronization will be released in March 2000. After a simple registration process all information can be send to the secure space2go servers.

Spyglass, Inc.

Available now, Spyglass Prism running on Windows NT/Sun Solaris, is a server-based content conversion solution that dynamically transforms richly formatted Web content into formats, matching the limited display capabilities of non-PC devices. To support WAP devices, Prism converts standard HTML to WML. Through a strategic partnership with Nokia, Spyglass delivers a WAP V1.1 browser, a customizable, embedded WAP client for wireless devices. The platform-independent browser incorporates a rich API set to facilitate integration with the device’s platform and creation of WAP-based applications and services. Available in beta, Spyglass customizes and implements the browser for deployment by handset and PDA manufacturers.

Strategy.com

Strategy.com™, the Personal Intelligence Network™ from MicroStrategy (NASDAQ: MSTR), recently launched its WAP services. These services extend Strategy.com’s capabilities by allowing subscribers with WAP-enabled phones to access personalized finance, weather and sports information. Consumers can access Strategy.com through their phone’s mini-browser by pressing “go to…” and typing strategy.com. In the near future, Strategy.com users will also be able to trade shares of stock and buy merchandise by simply pressing a button on their cellular phone. Strategy.com works with companies such as EarthLink and Ameritrade to deliver personalized information and alerts to subscribers via email, telephone, mobile phone, pager and fax.

Swisscom Mobile
Swisscom Mobile, part of Swisscom A.G., Switzerland’s largest Telecommunications operator successfully implemented the WAP 1.1 standard in their network earlier in the year. Swisscom Mobile will be officially launching their own WAP product for the Swiss market early in the first quarter of the year 2000 with a broad portfolio of services ranging from information services to email and banking applications.

Tecnomen
Tecnomen is one of the first suppliers to provide WAP V1.1 access to all Unified Messaging services. Subscribers frequently on the move have now a visual access to their unified mailbox by using the WAP phone. One way to expand Tecnomen’s Unified Messaging by WAP is to bring Unified Messaging towards a personal communication portal, which combines messaging, directory, call control and address book services. Telstra commercially launched WAP V1.1 inconjunction with telstra.com, an Internet service in December 1999. The services available to Telstra’s WAP customers include access to telstra.com where email can be checked, news and sport from CNN, national news, weather, horoscopes, lotteries, sports scores or banking facilities. Initially Telstra will be offering WAP access to telstra.com on GSM. Telstra is currently testing WAP on its new CDMA network.

Virtual and a bank in Taiwan will launch a Mobile Banking service during December 1999. The service will provide account balance query, check account status notification, etc. Virtual will provide stock and news notification service during December 1999. Users can set up the notification criteria from web or handset. As the condition is met, such as stock price, index or quantity, or Currency Exchange Rate, the information will be pushed into user's WAP terminal.
