1800 Census

John Venable, Lincoln, NC (females under 10-1)81

John Venable, Stokes, NC (females under 10-4)82

William Venable, Buncombe, NC (females under 10-2)83

William Venable, Stokes, NC (no females under 10)
Stokes Co, NC created 1789 from Surry
1810 Census
Daniel Venable, Surry NC (females under 10 – 1)

John Venable, Lincoln NC* (females under 10-1, between 10 and 15-1)

Thomas Venable, Surry NC (no females in right age range)

William Venable, Surry NC* (females under 10-1, between 10 and 15-2)

If Mary Venable’s family did not leave NC before 1810, she would have to be the daughter of either John of Lincoln or William of Surry. Note that William Venable of Buncombe and John and William Venable of Stokes are not on the 1810 census which means they either died or moved from NC before 1810.
VENABLE YDNA
The Venable YDNA project is young. Remember when you are reading this that in the NC Venable pedigree a Venable woman had several children out of wedlock that had the name Venable so that some of the non-matching groups may be from that source. Another reason for non-matches is that some participants may not have the correct ancestor listed in thier pedigree. All researchers are the same. We are all looking for our ancestors and may make a mistake in deciding which person on our list is really our ancestor.
Group one: Joseph Venable 1730 VA-1810 KY, John Venable 1780 SC -AR, Moses Venable 1808 KY-1858 MS, Larkin S. Venable 1816 KY

Group two: Abraham Venable 1661 Eng-1710 Va, John W. Venable 1823 Ga - 1890 Ga

Group three: Thomas Venable 1706 England, Benjamin Franklin Hill 1873 NC

Group Four: John Columbus Venable 1851 Surry, William Venable 1831-1912, and participants with the last names of Jarmon, Salmon, Robinet and Bush.

The earliest records for a Venable arriving in America:
1620: Va Richard Venable

1635 Va Richard Venable

1682 Pa Elizabeth Venables, William, J

Joyce, Frances (no male heirs)

1685: Va Abraham Venable

1695: Va Richard Venable

1713 Va James Venable

1726 Md Joseph Venable

Are the NC Venables descended from Richard Venable who married Mary Jordan?

Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, Will Book A, page 28, JORDAN, JOHN, Pennsboro, Lancaster Co. April 12, 1750, November 9, 1754. Wife: Catherine, son John, George Tembleton, Isabel Barber, Richard Vennable, Archibald Kenedy, Samuel Lamb, Randle Slack, Mary Wray. Exs: wife Catherine and son John Jordan. Wit: John Addams, John Stewart, Alexander Sanderson, James Sanderson.

Per Jordan family records John Jordan had children:
1. John Jordan died 1791

2. Female Jordan married George Tembleton

3. Isabel married (1) Wrey (2) Barber

3a Mary Wray married John Wilson

3a1. Rev. Rbt. Wilson (1768 Lincoln NC) married Eliz. M. Gilleland (d/o Alexander Gilliland born 1737 PA and Francis Elizabeth Baird. Alexander Gilleland is found in Lincoln NC)

4. Mary Jordan (b. 1716) married Richard Venable

4a. Richard Venable, Jr. (1736? Or so) Could this be the Richard Venable of Lincoln Co, NC

5. Catherine Jordan married Archibald Kennedy (1715 PA)

6. Margaret Jordan married Samuel Lamb

7. Sarah Jordan married Randal Slack

Notice the coincidence in the Oliver family:
Kennedy is on the pedigree of Mary Dudley who married James William Oliver, the son of William F. Oliver and Mary Venable. Susan Gilleland –m-Guildford Dudley (son Edward married a Kennedy) See Dudley Pedigree. Susan Gilleland was the mother of Mary Dudley.

Could the Kennedy, Venable, Gilleland intermarriages in PA and NC be related to the Kennedy, Venable and Gilleland marriages in the Dudley/Oliver family in Savannah, Georgia?

LINCOLN CO NC
Lincoln was created from Tryon County in 1779. Tryon was created from Mecklenburg (an original county) in 1768.
The 1790 census (when William F. Oliver was supposedly born) shows Thomas Oliver, John Oliver, James Oliver, Richard Venable, Richard Venable, Alex. Gilleland Thomas Gilleland, William Kennedy, George Laurence, Andrew Lowrants, Abraham Lowrance, Daniel Lowrance, David Lowrance, Isaac Lowrance.
War of 1812 Roster Lincoln Co, NC: William Oliver, George Oliver, , John Venable

**A further note about Bradford Jones- from Cemetery Records of Effingham County:

JONES UNCLAIMED CEMETERYLocated off maple Street, Springfield, GA adjoining Union Cemetery next to Georgia National Guard Armory.

“Bradford Jones caused uprisings among slaves at the beginning of the War Between the States, which caused much strife in the area. As a result, he was hanged and he was not allowed to be buried inside the Union Cemetery because he was classified as a TRAITOR. The relationship to Rebecca Jones is not known.”

James William Oliver is on the 1850 Hamilton County Census - Page 473 - Occupation was listed as Farmer. This file on Ancestry.com has name spelled Oline

James W. Oliver96 (26 Ga, Farmer), Mary Oliver (24 Ga), Laura Oliver (6 Ga), Mary Oliver (4 Ga), Willeminer (2 Fla). Leadness (2 Fla)

James’ age is in error as seen from his tombstone inscription which has 1822-1865.
In 1850 in same district there is a James R Oliver with 2 slaves (1) female age 15 and one male age 11.
Across the GA/FLA line from Hamilton Co, Fla, we find in 1850 in Lowndes Co, Ga:
Family 699: Abraham Brantley97 (31 Ga), Mary Brantley (17 Ga), Delilah Brantley (6 Ga), Martha Ann Brantley (3 Ga), George Brantley (newborn Ga).
Family 783: Granville Beville98 (65 Ga), Sarah Ann Beville (51 Ga), Claiborne Beville (25 Ga),

Daniel Beville (23 Ga), Robert Beville (17 Ga), Julia Beville (9 Ga).

Children of James W. Oliver married into both the Brantley and the Bevill families. Did James Wm. Oliver know the Brantley and Beville families in Chatham before they moved to Hamilton Co. Florida and adjacent Lowndes County, Georgia? Did they migrate together? Or, did the Oliver, Brantley and Beville connection happen after James Wm. Oliver moved back to Chatham County, Georgia and perhaps looked up relatives of the Brantley and Bevill families he met in Florida. Or, was it all just a coincidence?
