Specimen Menus were submitted and he Menu was decided upon. The Deacon was to contact Invercarse Hotel to make final arrangements.
Music
After a full discussion it was agreed that the expense of engaging an Orchestra was not justified and the Deacon undertook to contact Messers Largs with a view to providing Background music. The Public Address Equipment would be obtained as formerly from Messers Largs.
After reference to the Account of Receipts and Payments of the Annual Dinner last year it was decided that the tickets this year would be £1.15/-.
In regard to the Dinner Convener next year Mr John Allardyce was appointed but the Clerk undertook to carry out the arrangements for the Dinner this year.
The Boxmaster raised the question of a Certificate being issued to the New Members of the Bonnetmakers and he was informed that unless new Members were already Members of one of the other Trades a Certificate of Membership was issued to them. The Deacon that he had in hand the preparation of a separate Certificate for such Members.
V. Ralph Pride Bequest
It was decided that a Special Meeting of the Committee should be held to discuss the matter of Ralph Pride’s Bequest and it was arranged that such a Meeting be held on Thursday 17th November 1966.
The Meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the Chairman.

I. Storage of Banner
The Deacon referred to the storage of the Banner and the consultations that had taken place regarding the best method of storage and it was decided that the Banner should be hung in St Andrew’s Church as arranged by the Reverend T R S Campbell and a suitable cover if possible should be made for it.
II. Final Arrangements for Annuli Dinner
The final arrangements for the Annual Dinner were then made and certain of the Members undertook to look after the Guests on arrival. It was arranged that the Deacon and the Boxmaster would meet the Clerk on Monday at 4.30 to make the table arrangements.
III. Ralph Pride Bequest.
After discussion it was decided to invest the £1000 bequest received from Mr Ralph Pride in a Corporation Mortgage for two years. The Clerk reported that he understood that the individual Crafts of the Nine Incorporated Trades would not be considered as Charitable Institutions as their corporate body The Nine Incorporated Trades was considered a Charity and their tax would be deducted from the interest received. The Clerk was instructed to verify this position. Various suggestions were put forward as to the use of this £1000 but it was decided that if possible the income should be accumulated and the decision to utilise this income could be discussed by a future Meeting.
IV. General
A general discussion followed regarding the method that might be adopted to give the individual Members of the Craft more information about the history of he Bonnetmaker Craft and it was suggested tat a booklet giving a short history of he craft might be prepared. The Deacon stated that he had this matter in hand and was also preparing a Certificate which should be handed to each new Bonnetmaker.
He Committee expressed the opinion that the Toast to the Bonnetmaker Craft should be included in the Toast List on future occasions and it was also suggested that the Reverend T R S Campbell might be asked at the March Making or some future Making to give a talk on the History of the Craft.
It was felt that a great number of the Member who joined perhaps attended on or two Meetings after they were made but did not continue to support the Craft by their regular attendance and it was considered that if more information of the Craft’s History was given to the Members it would perhaps create more interest.

Toast List
In view of the large number of Members after a full discussion it was decided that there would only be the Toast to “The Nine Incorporated Trades” and the Boxmaster undertook to contact Dr Howell and ask him to undertake this duty. He would also inform the Convener that his reply should be a formal one.
Reference was made to the suggestion that the Reverend T R S Campbell ought to give a Talk on the history of he Bonnetmakers Craft at one of our Makings but in view of the large number of new Members coming forward it was decided to postpone the Talk until a future Meeting.
Specimen Menus were submitted but as these were for full Dinner meals the Clerk was authorised to arrange a Supper Meal at a price considerably under £1 per head. The price of the Tickets was fixed at £1.1/-.
Arising out of the minute of Meeting held on 17th November 1966 the Boxmaster reported that the Deacon had submitted to Burns & Harris a draft specimen of Form of Admission to he Craft which he hoped in future would be handed to each new Member.
Mr Millar raised the question of a Booklet being issued giving the history of the Craft and he Boxmaster stated that he understood the Deacon also had this in hand.

I. The Minute of Meeting of the Committee held on 6th March 1966 was read and approved.
II. Approval of Certificate to be issued to all New Members of the Craft
The Deacon produced Specimen on the Certificate which had been decided should be issued to all New Members of the Craft. Mr Millar and Mr Adams were of the opinion that the Certificate should be issued to every Member of the Craft but it was considered that this would involve too much work and expense and if any of the existing Members specially desired a Certificate this could be supplied.
III Accounts The Boxmaster’s Accounts for the year ended 30th June 1967 were gone over by the Deacon who informed the Meeting that he had audited these Accounts this morning and had found them in order. The Accounts showed a surplus if Income over Expenditure of £66.10. 7d. the reason for this was the increased income of the Craft the investment of the bequest received from Ex-Deacon Ralph Pride and the increased income from the considerable number of new Members made at the March Making, also the Deacon informed the Meeting hat the annual Dinner had shown a surplus.
It was decided that the Clerk should receive £25 for clerical assistance.
IV> Arrangements for Annual General Meeting and Making 4th October 1967
It was decided that the Toast List should be “The Nine Incorporated Trades” “The Deacon Boxmaster and Clerk” and “Thee New Members”.
The Clerk was instructed to request Ex-Deacon David Moyes to propose the Toast “The Deacon Boxmaster and Clerk” and Mr Ritchie a new Member to propose the Toast of The Nine Incorporated Trades”.
In connection with the payment to Mr Greensmith for his work in connection with the new Lockit Book it was suggested that the sum of 60 guineas should be sent to him.
V. Application Forms.
The following Applications for Membership were submitted.

Mr Allardyce stated that F Gordon Allan Architect a son of a Bonnetmaker would also be coming forward at the Making. Mr Adams stated that James A C Stothers was also prepared to join and the Clerk was instructed too send him the necessary Application Form.
VI. Arrangements for Annual Dinner – Friday 124th November 1967.
After discussion it was decided that the Toast List should be:
The City and Trade of Dundee.
The Nine Incorporated Trades
The Bonnetmaker Craft
The Boxmaster undertook to arrange Speakers for these Toasts.
VII. Other Competent Business.
Mr Allardyce complained that the service at the last Making was very bad and suggested that he and the Clerk might discuss this matter with the Management.
The deacon stated that he had been approached by the New Dundee University that a Bonnet or some other relic to the Craft might be used inn the Graduation Ceremony to be held in October at which the Queen Mother was to be capped. The Boxmaster considered that part of the old Banner might be used for this purpose in preference to a Bonnet and the Deacon was instructed to contact Professor Drever on the matter.
It was decided to insure the new Banner against All Risks and Mr Black undertook to attend to this matter.
New Boxmaster
The Boxmaster proposed that Mr W K Black be nominated as the new Boxmaster and Mr Black thanked the Boxmaster and the Committee for the honour they had conferred on him.

The Clerk reported that Committee Meetings were held on 29th October 1966, 17th November 1966, 6th March 1967 and 104th August 196.
II. Accounts
The Clerk read over the Boxmasters Cash Account for the year ended 30th June 1967 an abstract of which had already been circulated to the Members. The Clerk reported that the Income exceeded the expenditure by £66.10. 7d and explained that due to the Ralph Pride Bequest and also that there had been a surplus on the Annual Dinner and that during the past year there had been 13 new Members admitted. The Accounts were approved on the motion of Lord Dean of Guild Andrew Wallace seconded by Mr W A Findlay.
III. Election of Office Bearers
(a). Deacon
On the motion of Deacon J Greig Sibbald seconded by Mr Gordon S Watson Boxmaster Dr O Taylor Brown was unanimously elected Deacon for the ensuing year. The new Deacon expressed his thanks to he Members of the Craft for appointing him Deacon and assured the Members that it would be his earnest endeavour to serve the Craft to he best of his ability. He also paid tribute to the services rendered to the Craft by Ex-Deacon J Greig Sibbald.
(b). Boxmaster
On the motion of Deacon O Taylor Brown seconded by Ex-Deacon J Greig Sibbald Mr W K Black was unanimously elected Boxmaster for the ensuing year. In accepting office Mr Black thanked the Members for the honour they paid him in appointing his to the high office.
(c). Clerk
On the motion of Deacon Mr Frank Hay was unanimously re-elected Clerk to the Craft.
(d). Committee
It was intimated that Alan C Lemon, John P Allardyce , Harold H Adams , W K Black and also Dr H K Tulloch who owing to business commitments could not attend regularly at the Committee Meetings retired from office and were not eligible for re-election. The Clerk stated that ere were vacancies for three Members to serve for two years and two Members to serve for one year. The following Members were elected to the Committee to hold office for two years, A C Michael, Ian R L Lamont and Lyall Bowie. The following Members were elected to hold office for one year, Mr Ian Murray and Mr James Devlin.
IV Annual Dinner
The Deacon intimated that the Annual Dinner of the Craft would be held in Invercarse Hotel on Friday 244th November 1967.
Kirking of Trades
The Deacon reminded the Members that he Kirking of the Trades would take place in St Andrew’s Church on Sunday first the 8th curt.

Minute of Meeting of the Committee of the Bonnetmaker Craft of Dundee held at 148 Nethergate Dundee on Thursday 17th October 1967 at 5.15 p.m.
Present: Deacon Dr O Taylor Brown, J Greig Sibbald, Boxmaster Ex-Deacon David S Moyes, Messers J Allardyce, Harold W Adams, W K Black, Arthur J Millar and Leslie F Mitchell
I. The Minute of Meeting of the Committee held on 6th March 1966 was read and approved.
The Deacon referred to the reference in the Minutes regarding New Certificates and stated that it was suggested that any Members who desired these Certificates could obtain one on payment of a small fee. After discussion Mr Arthur Millar proposed and Mr Leslie F Mitchell seconded that Certificates b issued on request on payment of a fee of 5/-.
The Deacon then referred to the use of one our Bonnets at the Granulation Ceremony to be held in the Caird Hall on Thursday of this week. He also stated that Mr Boyd Director Art Galleries and Museum was to obtain a proper description of the old Dundee Bonnet and that Mr Sibbald was to have one made and suitably embroidered with the Craft’s Crest.
II Applications for Pensions
The Clerk submitted letters received from the present Pensioners and after a very full discussion it was agreed that the Deacon and Boxmaster at he General Fund Court would support these Applications. It was felt that the Deacon and Boxmaster might pay a social visit to these Pensioners as it was considered that apart from the grant of money the Craft could may be assist these Pensioner who were all elderly in other respects.
The Clerk stated that he had written to Mrs Edith Soutar 72 Dalhousie Road Barnhhill but the letter had been returned marked “Gone Away”. The Deacon thought that this lady was a patient in Ashludie Hospital in the Geriatric ward and he was to look into the matter.
III arrangements for Annual Dinner
The Deacon stated that Lord Hughes had very kindly agreed to propose the Toast of “The Nine Incorporated Trades” and that he was contacting the Deacon of the Bonnetmaker & Dyer Incorporation of Glasgow to reply to the Toast of “The Guests”. He stated that at the moment he had not obtained a Speaker to propose the Toast of “The City and Trade of Dundee” and that the Clerk had only received word before the Meeting hat the Lord Provost of Perth was also unable to attend. After discussion and suggestions by the Members it was agreed that the Deacon should contact one of the Professors at he University of Dundee to propose this Toast. If none were available it was suggested that the Deacon and the Clerk might make personal call on Mr Carlton to propose this Toast.
The Boxmaster undertook to propose the “Vote of Thanks”
Specimen Menus were submitted and after discussion it was agreed to accept the 24/- Menu but if possible the Dinner Convener Mr Allardyce was to contact Mr Nicholson of Invercarse Hotel and obtain Hors d’Ouvres instead of Melon.
IV Ralph Pride Bequest.
The Deacon stated that the £1000 bequeathed by Deacon Ralph Pride had been invested and he thought that a Special Meeting should be called to discuss what use the income could be put to. He also expressed the opinion that we might hold a function or functions so that the wives of Members could attend as the Hammerman Craft and the Baker Craft hold. Dinner Dances, Various suggestions were put forward as to the type of functions and Mr Leslie Mitchell suggested that at the next Meeting of the Committee there should be two items on the Agenda namely, Discussion of the Ralph Pride Bequest and discussion regarding the Social Evening.

Minute of Meeting of the Committee of the Bonnetmaker Craft of Dundee held at 148 Nethergate Dundee on Thursday 22nd February 1968 at 5.15 p.m.

I. The Minute of Meeting of the Committee held on 17th October 1967 was read and approved.
In connection with the business arising from the Minute the Deacon referred to the Bonnet which the Craft was presenting to the Dundee University and stated that there was a suggestion that what was known as a Stewart Bonnet should be presented but it was thought that we should submit a replica of the Bonnet used at our Initiation Makings and Mrs Sibbald had undertaken to make such a Bonnet.
In connection with the Ralph Pride Bequest a full discussion took place regarding the income and provided the income of the Craft was sufficient to meet its Annual expenditure it was felt that this income should be used for some specific purpose such as the publication of a Booklet or any other outside object. No definite decision was taken in this matter.
II Annual Dinner
The Statement of Receipts and Payments of the Annual Dinner was submitted which showed a credit balance of £14. 6. 2d. This was due to the fact that the three Applications which had already been passed would come forward at this Making namely: John Jackson, Dr Donald G Southgate and J F Forbes White. As Mr White had missed two Meetings the Clerk was instructed to contact his Sponsor to see if Mr White was still anxious to become a Member.
New Applications were submitted from Alexander Binnie Pharmacist 15 Dalgleish Road Dundee and R M M Robertson Secretary Dundee University 34 Middlebank Crescent Dundee. It was also reported that there were definitely three other Applicants namely: Dr Frew, Mr David Wright and Mr George May. The Deacon and the Boxmaster were authorised to accept these Applications and any other Applications received before the date of the Meeting.
IV Arrangements for Making – 27th March 1968
It was decided that the reverend T R S Campbell be asked to propose the Toast of the Craft and that he would incorporate in his Toast a history of the Craft. Accordingly any other Toasts apart from the Toast to the New Members would be formal ones. Mr Lyall Bowie undertook to propose the Vote of Thanks.
Specimen Menus were submitted and it was decided to take Menu No 1 at 10/6d namely Scotch Broth, Beefsteak and Kidney Pie, Coupe Andnaluse and Coffee. It was agreed to fix the price of the Tickets at £1. 1/-.
The Deacon Stated that he expected each Member of the Committee to dispose of five Tickets.
V. General
The Deacon stated that he felt that we should endeavour to have other functions whereby the wives of Members could be invited and it was felt a Special Theatre Outing to the Rep with a Supper in Nicoll & Smibert's ay the finish would be attractive to the members.
The Deacon undertook to contact Mr Doig Clerk of the baker Trade who runs these Annual Theatre Functions to ascertain how best this outing could be arranged.
In regard to the proposed Publication of a booklet giving a history of the Craft the Deacon Boxmaster and Ex-Deacon Sibbald Rev T R S Campbell and Mr Arthur J Millar were appointed to a Sub-Committee.
