Ref: Coshocton Daily Age, Coshocton, OH, Mon., 7 Apr. 1902 – Plainfield, 4 Apr. – We laid in the Plainfield cemetery this afternoon the body of Samuel McKee, of Oxford township. He had been a soldier and was buried by Workman Post, of the Grand Army, services at the late residence having been held by Rev. Mr. Stahl and Rev. Mr. Allar.
Mr. McKee was 64 years old and was one of this section’s best citizens. He was the son of Andrew & Fannie McKee, born and reared on the farm where he died. In 1870, he was united in marriage with Miss Rebecca J. Fowler, d/o the late William & Elizabeth (Platt) Fowler, of Bacon. Before marriage, Mrs. McKee was a loved and successful school mistress. She was the Mother of three children, only one of whom, Charles, survives his Father.
An affection of the eyes has made Mrs. McKee almost blind. She could not look upon the face of her dead husband but asked to be permitted to touch his hands and place her cheek against his cold and lifeless face as he lay in the casket, kissing him on the forehead and bidding him a long farewell. The scene was pathetic in the extreme. A large number of friends and relatives attended the funeral.

"The first I knew anything about my family was while we were at Uncle John Love's in 1880. He and I sat together on that high front porch, and he told me about some of the early history.

"He said the Loves and McKees both moved from Scotland when the Catholics drove the Protestants out, and they settled in Co. Ulster, Ireland. Uncle John said they lived north of the place where the McKee family located. You know that at the first of 1800 so many came to America from both Ireland and Scotland, and they were the workmen who dug the canals and later made the bed for the railroads. We owe much to those immigrants and the way they handled the shovel and pick.

"In the year 1819?, our great grandfather (James Love, md. Jane McKee) let his son, Samuel (Samuel Love md. to Deborah Mitchell) come to America. There were two other boys that came with him to America. The three boys went to Queenstown to find a ship. They found a ship loaded with wheat, but it was old and the Insurance Company would not insure it. The boys took passage because it was cheap. They had a long, rough voyage, but they landed at Pier #4, New York City, at 2: p.m. on 4 July 1819?. The ship reloaded and started back but was never heard from.
"The three boys went to Philadelphia, and after staying there awhile, they started for Pittsburgh on foot. There were McKees in McKeesport and Uncle Sam stayed there awhile and then went on into Ohio. He located in Coshocton County. He bought the land where Uncle John later lived and died. In 1826, Uncle Sam wrote to his father to come as he had a home for them. Our great grandfather and mother got ready to come. They had some cattle to sell and Uncle John took them to a place south of Miller and where the McKees lived. They had to use a Bible to make the sale correct and safe, and it was hard to find a Bible, because all of the people were Catholics. At last a Protestant family was found. Uncle John was so happy about coming to America that he had to tell the family all about it. The woman at the house was delighted, and she told Uncle John that she had a boy in America, and gave him messages for that boy. She felt sure he would find him. Uncle John did find her son, Andrew McKee who later married Fannie Love. (Mrs. Dyarmen's grandparents) (Fannie Love was Uncle John's sister). (Two other sisters, Ann and Eleanor, came over later. Ann married George Cochran, and Eleanor married John Osborn Love -- "Duncan John")
"Our great grandfather and great grandmother Love (James and Jane (McKee) lived, died, and were buried on Uncle John's farm. He built a log cabin up in the orchard, and there Eleanor and "Uncle Duncan" moved in when they arrived. Only six weeks thereafter their little girl was born. (Susan, later married to Andrew Karr) They came in the winter of 1836/37 and Susan was born in March, 1837. Their other children were Tom, Jane, and Ann. (also James?) How much they did endure!
(At this point, Mrs. Dyarman wrote of finding a family in Urbana, Illinois who had in their possession a letter dated in 1819, one sentence of which ran as follows: "Did you know that young Samuel Love, our second cousin, and two other boys have gone to America." This would seem to indicate that the Urbana family was related.)
"Fannie Love married Andrew McKee. Their oldest child, Samuel McKee was born Dec. 14, 1838. He served as a private during the Civil War. On October 26, 1870 he was married to Rebecca Fowler of Linton Township, Coshocton County, Ohio. He died in April, 1902 and she died in 1903. They were both buried in the Plainfield (Ohio) cemetery. Their children were: Lizzie, born June 29, 1873, died September 16, 1895, and Charles, who lives in Warsaw, Ohio.

Fannie Love, who married Andrew McKee, had three children, Samuel, Lizzie, and James. When James was born, on November 26, 1842, his mother, Fannie Love McKee died. She was buried in the little graveyard on Uncle John Love's farm. Before Uncle John died he had his neighbors remove the remains of the members of their families from this graveyard, and he had the remains of his father, him mother, his sister, Fannie (McKee), and his own oldest son (James) removed to the Presbyterian cemetery in Keene. James McKee, (son of Fannie and Andrew) was reared by his aunt Eleanor (Love) Love. He died September 18, 1853, and is buried in the Methodist cemetery in Keene.

Elizabeth or Lizzie McKee, the second child of Fannie Love and Andrew McKee, was born September 19, 1840 and died January 13, 1871 at Keene. She was married April 26, 1860 to Maro M. Sprague. (Buried in Methodist cemetery in Keene.) Maro M. Sprague was born in Keene December 21, 1837, and died September 3, 1912. (Buried in Bement, Illinois) Their children were: Nellie Fie, born Feb. 11, 1861; Lucie Ann, born May 29, 1863; Lizzie McKee, born January 7, 1871.
Nellie Fie Sprague married Jesse Smith in May 1881, died November 1, 1890. Their children: Blanche Ellen, Shaffer Marquiss, and Russel.
Lucie Ann Bradley Sprague married Byron E. Dyarman on February 19, 1889. Their children: Helen Mable, Margaret Louise, Carrie Nell.
Helen Mable was born Dec. 23, 1889 and married Earl Totten on 26 April 1910. Their children: Allen Manning b. May 17, 1914, d. June 12, 1914; Guy Earl, b. Dec. 31, 1915; Mary Hillis, b. July 20, 1917; Frances Shirley, b. April 28, 1925, d. August 22, 1925.
Margaret Louise was born March 16, 1898, married to Clyde Baker on Feb. 27, ????.
Carrie Nell was born October 5, 1901. Teacher, Illinois Woman's College, Jacksonville A. B. University of Illinois A.M.
"Your grandma Love had a small boy, James that died when he was young and he is laid in the lot with my mother." Would this be James the son of Wilma Compton's ??? parents, Eleanor and John Osborn (Duncan) Love?) He was twenty years old and is buried in the lot with his own parents in the Methodist cemetery in Keene.

Totten who live a short distance east of the Bement cemetery rode his pony to the cemetery. When near the house occupied by Otis Biesecker, the are taker, the boy fell or was thrown from his pony; his left elbow was dislocated and the arm broken two inches below the elbow.
Mr. Biesecker saw the accident and when he reached the boy, seized the arm and pulled the elbow into place with an accuracy that entitles him to at least, honorable mention among amateur surgeons.
Mrs. Totten was at the home of her sister, Mrs. Clyde Baker and Mrs. Biesecker used hot applications to keep down inflammation until medical aid could reach them.
Mr. Totten was helping his father-in-law, B. E. Byarman at the latter’s farm northwest of town.
Grandfather Next
But there were other happenings. Mr. Dyarman, the little boy’s grandfather, hauling tile to his farm from the factory of James Fairbanks had occasion to crank his Ford and in so doing his right arm was broken in the joint at the wrist.
While Drs. McPherson and Turley were x-raying Mr. Dyarman’s arm they were called to set the break in Guy Totten’s arm. Both fractures were reduced and both patients are comfortable.
Can Still Sign
The fact that Mr. Dyarman is left handed lends a silver lining to the cloud – brought on by the cranked and cranky Ford, as he can still sign checks for school and township orders.
Mr. Dyarman is a member of the board of education of the township high school district.

Annie (Ann) Love and immigrated to Jefferson Co., OH in 1826 with daughter, Jane b. ca 1825. In 1831, they moved to Coshocton Co., OH and then to Glasgow, Jefferson Co., IA in 1841. There is also a possible link with the Dunlavy family in Ireland, OH and IA.

She was coming too until someone told her if she died, they would throw her in the ocean and the whales would get her. She would not come. They and four children came, Jane, Ann, James and Thomas.
Ref: Mikki Crawford – The McConnell Family pg. 16 – Jane Mary McConnell was born in Ireland in 1811, and came to America in 1834. She was married to John Love, Jan. 18, 1838 and died in 1876 in her 65th year. She is buried in Keene Presbyterian Cemetery, Keene, Coshocton Co., OH. (My brother Earl told me that he remembers of hearing the family speaking of her and that they always referred to her as Aunt “Jin-Mary” with the accent on “Mary”). John Love was born in Ireland July 6, 1806 and came to America in 1826. Married Jane Mary McConnell Jan. 18, 1838 and died on March 13, 1892, in his 85th year being 85 years, 8 mos. And 7 das. They were the parents of eight children.
Not one descendant of John and Jane Mary (McConnell) Love is living today. The last one passed away many years ago. (Some of my earliest childhood memories are of the times I spent at the old Love Home. There were no children then in the Love family and they used to beg my parents to let me go down and spend time with them. Samuel, Emma and Miranda were living in the old home. John and Mary (sp) {Wilson} Love lived in a home on the south portion of the farm. As there several children in our family my parents quite often consented to my going to their home. I would often stay for several weeks. I remember so many things about his home and of the things that happened when I was there. I remember of how they carried water from the spring house, how the wash-water was heated in a big kettle that swung from a crane over the big fireplace in the basement, of the fireplace in the living room and the big cupboard to the right of it (where they kept the taffy they made for me), of the old spinning wheel in the parlor with its flax on the spindle all ready to spin, of the sun dial in the front yard, and so many other things that come back to me now. Most of this was before I was old enough to go to school.
Ref: Mikki Crawford - The McConnell Family pg. 11 – A letter written by John Wallace for Mrs. Love’s Uncle, David Love, at Ballymagown, Ireland, dated 3 March 1869 to Jane Mary (McConnell) Love. The author was unable to find a Ballymagown on an Irish map but did observe two readable post-marks on the envelope “Milford” and “Letterkenny”. Both towns are located near Rathmullen which is located in the northeastern part of County Donegal.
“I also have a letter written to Alexander McConnell by a Mr. Finley of Newtownstuart, Ireland, Dec. 15, 1875. He had been at their home in Northfield, Ohio and had just reached his home in Ireland. He was telling of his trip home and in the letter said, “On Friday the 11th, we sailed past your old home in Donegal an came up to Movill Bay after 8 o’clock p.m.” Moville Bay is on “Lough Foyle” an some miles east of Milford but still in County Donegal.
In 1832, Matthew McConnell, in company with Nathaniel McClure, came to America for the purpose of locating a place to which his parents could bring the rest of the children. They located in the new Ohio territory and decided on a spot in Keene Township, Coshocton Co., OH.
In 1834, John McConnell and Sarah (Rodgers) McConnell came to America bringing the other seven children (Mathew being already here) and located about three miles west of Keene.

Ref: (Sprague History) John lived on the Love farm and he and his Father, James, built a cabin in the orchard for the last member of the family to come to America - Eleanor Love, who had married in Ireland to John Osborn Love (not related). They arrived in New York in 1838, went up the Hudson River to the Lake Erie Canal, then the Ohio Canal to Roscoe, Ohio. Susan, their last child, was born August 24, 1838, just six weeks after they arrived at her brother, John's home. They lived in this cabin until they died. It is thought they died in 1881. They had been in America about four years when her sister, Fannie Love McKee, living in Plainfield, Ohio, died in 1842.

When Fannie died she asked that her sister, Eleanor Love, take the youngest child, James to raise.
John, who as a young man of twenty years, assumed the responsibility of bringing his parents, James and Jennie (McKee) Love, his brother, Thomas and two sisters, Fannie and Alice, to America in 1826.
The John Love family established a family cemetery in Ohio on a hill in their orchard. James, Jennie "Jennie" Love, and their daughter, Fannie (Love) McKee, were buried there. Before John died he asked that all the families in the neighborhood who had used the cemetery plot to bury family members to remove their remains to the cemeteries then established in Keene. James and Jennie Love and Fannie (Love) McKee were moved to the Presbyterian Cem. in Keene.

Graham & Co., 1881, pg. 729 - Love, John, Keene township; farmer; born July, 1806, in Ireland; son of James and Jane (McKee) Love, grandson of Samuel and Susan (Kirskadden) Love, and of Thomas McKee. Mr. Love followed farming in Ireland till the age of twenty, when he came to America and settled on the farm where he now lives. He was married, January, 1838, to Miss Jane McConnell, born in Ireland, June 3, 1812, daughter of John and Sarah (Rodgers) McConnell. Their children were: Sarah J., born December 28, 1838; James, deceased, October 28, 1840; Mary A., deceased, September 2, 1842; Catharine, deceased, September 2, 1842; Samuel, May 5, 1846; Ellen F., deceased, July 12, 1849; Emma, September 1, 1854; John M., May 2, 1857, and Miranda, October 23, 1859. Ref: Coshocton Age, Coshocton, OH, 7 Feb. 1902, pg. 1 – Robert H. Love – Death of one of the best known residents in Coshocton – Robert Hay Love died Wednesday morning at 8:30 o’clock after an illness of almost a year. The funeral will take place Saturday.
Mr. Love was 56 years old and was born at Canal Lewisville. He came to Coshocton when a young man, and the name has for years been identified with the business interests of the city. He was long the secretary of the Tuscarora Advertising Company, but last spring his health that had been failing for months compelled him to give up active work. Since he has been growing steadily worse.
Mr. Love leaves his wife, his sons Clyde, who is in the city, and Guy, a student in the Baltimore dental college, and his daughter, Mrs. William Wolford. Paul Love, of this city, Doctor M. J. Love of Sandusky and Melvin Love, of Bloomingville, are his brothers.
Mr. Love possessed a character sparkling with those traits that make men honored and loved by their fellow men. Ever firm in his convictions he was honest and straightforward with an earnestness that endeared him to all so fortunate as to know him. His association with the Odd Fellows was of long standing, and Coshocton had no more prominent and honored member of the order. While his death was not unexpected it comes as a shock to those who knew him only to honor and love him.
