having served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Area. He was a member of the
American Legion Post #68 of Narrows. He was a member of the Giles County
A.A.R.P. where he was a volunteer at the Riverview Nursing Home, and for his
service there, he received a special citation for Outstanding Service to the
Community. He was a very active supporter of the Boy Scouts of America. He
is survived by a daughter and her husband, Jean and Steve Montgomery, Rich
Creek; five brothers, Joe and Helen Guynn, Cotton (Frank) and Mary Ellen
Guynn, Don and Mary Jane Guynn, all of Narrows, Myron and Mabel Guynn,
Merrell and Peggy Guynn, both of Rich Creek; sisters-in-law, Emily Guynn,
Rich Creek, and Sarah Guynn, Rock Hill, S.C.; a son-in-law, Roger
Blankenship, Winfield, W.Va.; grandchildren, Tanya and Mark Smith, Terri and
Barry Thomas, Martica and Jimmy Dillon, Michelle Hancock; nine
great-grandchildren, Steven and Alex Smith, Tyler, Lauren, Caleb Thomas,
Kaylee and Dustin Dillon, and Sydney and Tate Hancock. Funeral services will
be held Friday, June 29, 2001, at 11 a.m. in the First United Methodist
Church, Rich Creek, with the Rev. Aubrey Whitlow officiating. Burial will
follow in the Sunrise Memorial Gardens, Rich Creek, with graveside rites
conducted by the American Legion Post #68, V.F.W. Post #6000, both of
Narrows and American Legion Post #311, Pembroke. The family will receive
friends at Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m.
and at the church Friday morning two hours prior to services. A Masonic
memorial service will be held by Intermont Lodge #269 on Thursday evening at
7 p.m. in Riffe's Funeral Service, Narrows.

GWYNN, Frankie King, 80, of Radford, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000 at her home.
She was the widow of George C. Gwynn. Surviving are a daughter, Cathy Gwynn
Bachara, Woodlawn; six brothers, Forrest Jones, Tallahassee, Florida, Bruce
King, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Barnett King and Claude King, Mount
Airy, North Carolina, John King, Pilot, North Carolina and Marvin King,
Warrenton. Two grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be at 3:30
p.m. Friday, May 12, 2000 a the Moody Funeral Chapel, Mt. Airy, N.C. with
interment to follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends
from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the DeVilbiss Funeral Home, Radford, and from
2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2000 at the Moody Funeral Home, Mount
Airy, N.C.

FORMER COUNTY YOUTH KILLED
A former Pulaski County child was killed yesterday following a two-car collision one and one-half miles west of Salem.

State police identified the youth as 10-year-old Dennis Devoe HAGEE, of Salem. He was killed instantly when the car in which he was riding collided with another vehicle.



The boy’s father, Alfred A. HAGEE, suffered a possible fractured skull and is listed as “seriously ill”

Clara Mae Hale, 90, of Dublin, died Friday, June 20, 2003 at her son's home. The daughter to the late George C. and Eurie V. Worrell, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Herman Eldridge Hale, one granddaughter, Teresa Harris and daughter-in-law, Selma Hale. Several sisters and brothers also preceded her in death. Mrs. Hale is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mrs. Magdalene and Curtis Lovern of Christiansburg; two sons and daughter-in-law, Euel Lee and Dollie Hale of Dublin, and J.P. Hale of Draper; eight grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. Seven of her sisters also survive her: Mrs. Alberta Kelly of Princeton, W.Va., Mrs. Ocie Conner of Shawsville, Mrs. Ethel McPeak of Pilot, Mrs. Bessie Stevens of Elliston, Mrs. Dorothy Keaton of Pipesteam, W.Va., Mrs. Willie Hill of Salem and Mrs. Mildred Sisson Barnett of Salem. Friends may call anytime after 9 a.m. Sunday, June 22, 2003 at The Horne Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 12 noon till service time. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday in The Horne Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Larry Bralley officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Cemetery in Shawsville. The Hale family is being served by Horne Funeral & Cremation Service in Christiansburg.

HALE, Mason Woodrum, 94, of Narrows, went to be with the Lord on Monday,
January 27, 2003, at his home with his family at his side. A lifelong
resident of Giles County, he was born on March 12, 1908, and was the son of
the late Rufus and Elizabeth McClanahan Hale. In addition to his mother and
father, he was preceded in death by two sons, Daniel Woodrum Hale and Dickie
Ray Hale; two brothers, Paul C. Hale and Hunter B. Hale; and two sisters,
Pauline Thomas and Roxie DeHart. A veteran of World War II, he served in the
United States Army during the Normandy Campaign in 1944, and received the
Purple Heart and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of North Narrows
Tabernacle. Much of his life was dedicated to farming and enjoying his
family. He is survived by his wife, Irene Blankenship Hale of Narrows; one
daughter, Annetta C. Hale of Rich Creek; two sons, Mason W. Hale, Jr. and
Mickey J. Hale, both of Narrows; one sister, Helen Fowler of Narrows; eight
grandchildren, Brenda Hines, Debora Oliver, Gary Byrd, Cindy Thorne, Kim
Price, Karen Thorne, Candace Hale, and Amanda Hale; ten great-grandchildren,
Donna Ralph, Jennifer Patteson, Carma Woods, Jamie Short, Gary Byrd, II,
Ashley Thorne, Ozzie Price, Jr., Rebecca Price, Tyler Thorne, and Dani
Thorne; seven great-great-grandchildren, Morgan Ralph, Hunter and Dylan
Woods, Landon, Brady, and Zach Patteson and Mason Short. Funeral services
will be held Wednesday, January 29, 2003, at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Riffe's
Funeral Service in Narrows with Rev. Paul Terry officiating. Burial will
follow in the Mason Hale Cemetery with graveside rites conducted by VFW Post
#6000 and American Legion Post #68, both of Narrows, and American Legion
#311 of Pembroke. The family will receive friends at Riffe's Funeral Service
in Narrows Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

HALE, Kester Thomas, 89, of Narrows, died Sunday, October 15, 2000, in Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Blacksburg. He was a lifelong resident of Giles County. He was born on June 12, 1911, and was the son of the late James Edward and Geneva Midkiff Hale. He was a retired employee of the Celanese Company Plant at Narrows. He is survived by his wife, Arlene B. Hale of Narrows; two sisters, Virginia H. Gautier, and Elizabeth H. Wall, both of Narrows. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 17, 2000, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service, Narrows, with the Rev. John Offenberger officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Narrows. The family will receive friends at the Riffe's Funeral Home, Narrows, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.

MISS MARY JANE HALL
Miss Mary Jane HALL, 87, of 15, 5th St. N.E., one of the early citizens of Pulaski, died late Wednesday night in her home.
She was born in Pulaski Co., Aug. 5, 1884, the daughter of the late Allen Bassett HALL and Emma Martin HALL, among the first settlers of Pulaski. The Martins owned much of the land where Pulaski is located, then known as Martins Tank. Miss HALL was a retired school teacher and a member of First United Methodist Church. Surviving are one brother, Job R. HALL, Florence, Ala. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday from Steven's Funeral Chapel with the pastor Dr. Robert F. Duncan officiating assisted by the Rev. David
Ensminger. Burial will follow in the Oakwood cemetery

Roy Calvin HALL, 82, of 249 N. Jefferson Ave., died at his home Saturday morning.
Born in Pulaski County the son of the late John Fry HALL and Sallie OSBORNE DUNLAP HALL, he was a former professional baseball player with the St. Louis Browns, and was a member of the American Legion for 62 years.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lois ALBERT HALL; one son, Roy A. HALL, -Okinawa; three daughters, Mrs. Arthur (Betty) TOURNEY, Pulaski, Mrs. Sally Hall BUCHANAN, Richmond, and Mrs. L.M. (Sarah Jane) AUSBON, LaMirada, Calif,; one sister, Mrs. Forest TAYLOR, Elliston, and eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. from Thomas M. Seagle & Sons Funeral Home, with the Rev. M. Anderson Sale officiating.
The body was bequeathed to the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of the First Presbyterian Church.
Visting will be Sunday at Thomas M. Seagle & Sons Funeral Home from
7 until 9 p.m.

HALL, William Charlie, (Willie), 81, of Pulaski, a beloved husband, father,
and grandfather, went home to be with the Lord Monday, February 26, 2001 at
the New River Valley Medical Center. Born February 24, 1920 in Wise County,
Virginia, he was the son of the late William Charlie Hall, Sr. and Mollie
Davis Asbury Hall. One grandchild, Cindy Denise Jenkins, and one sister,
Virginia Estep, preceded him in death. A retired coalminer, Willie retired
from United Mine Workers with 26 years of service. He attended the Abundant
Life Ministries Church, Pulaski. Survivors include his wife of 58 years,
Ruth Trigg Hall of Pulaski; daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth Ann and
Danny Carter of Christiansburg, Nancy Gale and Bill Linhardt of Pensacola,
Fla., Mary Linda Hall of Pulaski, Regina Carol and Jerry Williams of
Hillsville, Deborah Lynn and Isaac Johnston of Dublin; sisters, Ruby Fields
of Ohio, Grace Miller of Pulaski; brother, Sid Hall of Norton, Va.; nine
grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at the Bower Funeral Chapel,
Pulaski with the Rev. Randall Lawrence officiating. Interment will follow at
the Oakwood Cemetery, Pulaski. Visitation will be anytime after 3 p.m.
Wednesday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday
evening. Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski is handling the arrangements.

HALL, Roland Chasteen, 91, of Radford, passed away Friday, December 15,
2000, at the Kroontje Health Care Center in Blacksburg. He was born in
Snowville, Va. on Octber 4, 1909, a son of the late Burleigh R. and Lydia
Hylton Hall. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Glada Boyd Hall. He
was a retired millwright with Hercules, a self employed contractor, a member
of the Radford Christian Church Disciples of Christ, a 50 year member of the
Va. May Masonic Lodge #38 A.F. & A.M., the Scottish Rites Bodies, and the
Kazim Shrine Temple, and Va. May Chapter #92, Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Richard Arndt of
Blacksburg, Charlotte and Harold Rhodes of Disputanta, Va.; one son and
daughter-in-law, R.C. and Diane Hall, Jr. of Richmond; two brothers, John W.
Hall and B. Richard Hall, both of Hiwassee; three sisters, Oneva Brown and
Joretta Lawrence, both of Salem, Gypsie Farmer of Dublin; eight
grandchildren, Edward K. Smith, Terri Anderson, Alan Dale Smith, Tara Rhodes
Burgess, Wendi Rhodes Black, Ashley Boyd Rhodes, David Robertson Hall,
Steven Randolph Hall; seven great-grandchildren, Shannon McQuade, Tori
Anderson, Jared Peyton, Matthew Burgess, Molly Boyd Black, Tracy Alwine,
Benjamin Alwine. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 18, 2000, at
2 p.m. at the Radford Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Radford, with
the Rev. Dennis Martin officiating. Interment will follow in West View
Cemetery in Radford where members of Va. May Masonic Lodge #38 A.F. & A.M.
will conduct Masonic last rites. In lieu of flowers the family requests that
contributions be made to the Radford Christian Church Memorial Fund, 1300
Second St., Radford, Va. 24141 or the Shriners Children's Hospital,
Greenville Unit, 628 W.Campbell Ave., Roanoke, Va. 24016. Members of the Va.
May Masonic Lodge should meet at the Lodge Hall at 1:30 p.m. on Monday. The
family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, December 17, 2000 at
the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Pauline TRUEHEART, Draper; a son Lewis HALL, Petersburg; two sisters, Miss Daisy SLAUGHTER, Draper; Mrs. Eula GRIFFITH, New Comerstown, Ohio; one brother, the Rev. E.L. SLAUGHTER, Radford.

Funeral will be held Monday at 2 p.m. from the Draper Methodist Church, with burial to follow in the Draper Cemetery. The Rev. H.L. Johnston, the Rev. W.S. Golden and the Rev. O.L. Johnston will officiate.

The body will be removed at 6 p.m. from Claytor Funeral Home in Radford to the home.

Mrs. Dora Blanche Hall, widow of Bert HALL, a World War veteran, died


last night at the home of her mother, Mrs. Alex KENNEDY, up the Altoona
railroad, following an extended illness from complications, aged 28 years,
8 months and 10 days. She is survived by one daughter, Mary. Burial will
be tomorrow in the Ray cemetery.

Thelma Jean Bartlett Hall age 64 of 36 Sixth Street, N. W., Pulaski passed away Monday, May 26, 2003 at her home. Born February 24, 1939 in Draper, Va., she was the daughter of the late Edward Bartlett and Elena Quesenberry Bartlett. Surviving are her husband, Robert Lee “Bob” Hall, Pulaski; daughter, Julia Lynn Simpkins, Kinston, N. C.; son, Gurvis Cleton Simpkins, Jr., Pulaski; three grandchildren, Jessica Lynn Fagg, Amanda Gail Fagg, Brandy Simpkins; great grandson, Cory Sloan Mayo; two sisters, Mary Ellen Fuller, Sail Creek, Tenn., Brenda Thomas, Pulaski; brothers, Doug Bartlett, Pulaski, Larry Bartlett, Pulaski. Funeral services will be Thursday 2 p.m. at the Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski with Rev. Danny McGlothlin officiating. Interment will follow in Hufford Cemetery, Pulaski. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski is handling the arrangements.

Snowville, Va., January 14, 1919 - The holiday season was a very quiet one here and for many families a very sad one, owing to sickness and death. While the immediate town has had only a few cases of influenza, the surrounding neighborhood has had quite a number.

HALL, Michael Anthony, 43, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at his home in Christiansburg. He left behind his loving wife, Teresa Hall of Christiansburg; his "Baby Girl", Erika Dawn Hall, the love of his life, of Christiansburg; four stepdaughters; and three stepsons-in-law, Valorie and Travis Willis of Check, Stacy and John Rupprecht of Christiansburg, Regina and Jonathan (Tator) Hamlin of Floyd, and Samantha Pack of Christiansburg; one stepson, Tylor Musselman of Christiansburg; and two grandbabies, Destiny Willis and Mackenzie Rupprecht. He was born August 25, 1959 in Atlanta to Joe Jackson Hall of Long Beach, N.C. and Ona Robertson Hall of Mocksville, N.C. He had one brother, Dana Hall; a sister, Julie Overby of Mocksbille, N.C.; three nephews; a nieces; a great-nephew; and special friends and family in North Carolina. He was employed by Wholesale Enterprises. He was an avid NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt fan and a member of Smith Grove United Methodist Church. The funeral service was at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 20, 2003 at Eaton Funeral Chapel in Mocksville, N.C. with the Rev. Chris Clontz officiating. Burial will be at Smith Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. He will be deeply missed by his wife, stepchildren and his grandbabies that called him "Papaw".
