Dr. J. Alex Haller, 72, a prominent Pulaski dentist, died late Thursday night in Pulaski Community Hospital.
Dr. Haller practiced dentistry for over 50 years in Pulaski and was a past president of the Virginia State Dental
Association. He also served on the board of the Virginia State Dental Examiners for many years.
Dr. Haller was a past president of the Pulaski Rotary Club, a past chairman of the board of deacons at the First Presbyterian Church, and a graduate of the medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry. He is survived by two sons, Dr. Thomas B. Haller of Pulaski and Dr. J. Alex Haller Jr. of Baltimore Md., three sisters,
Dr. C.O. Haller of Wytheville, Mrs. Paul E. Prillaman of Lake Placid, Fla., and Miss H. Hardess Haller of Wytheville; two brothers, Dr. John 0. Haller and
Dr. Julian B. Haller, both Of Wytheville and seven grand
children
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 V.m. at the First
Presbyterian Church with Rev Dr. T.A . Freeman Officiating,Friends may call Saturday at Stevens Funeral Home.

Hughie D. HAMBLIN, a former service man, was so badly injured Wednesday afternoon about 4 o’clock as a result of a boiler explosion at the Kitts flouring mills at Long Spur, Bland County, that he died within 25 minutes. The victim of the explosion was fireman at the mills and was alone at the time in the boiler room, this part of the mill building being wrecked and parts of the engine strewn about for many feet. He was caught beneath some pipes and was unconscious when gotten out. No one else was hurt.
The deceased was a son of U. S. and Sallie HAMBLIN and was born and reared in the Long Spur section of Bland County. He enlisted for service during the war and saw oversea duty, proving himself to be a gallant American soldier. Since his return home he has been employed at the mill. Besides his parents, five brothers and five sisters, he leaves a widow and one child, to whom the sympathy of his host of friends goes out in their bereavement. His age was 26 years.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, burial will be held in the Long Spur cemetery.

Toby Eugene Hamblin, 61, of Pulaski, died Friday, June 27, 2003, in Carilion New River Valley Medical Center. Surviving are his wife, Kathern Hamblin of Pulaski; two sons, Jeff Hamblin of Pulaski and Todd Hamblin of Dinwiddie County; a daughter, Tina Dixon of Prince George County; one sister, Joan Carbel of Kansas; and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 30, 2003, at the DeVilbiss Funeral Chapel with Chaplin Jonathan Webster officiating. Interment will follow in Brown Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, June 29, 2003, at the DeVilbiss Funeral Home of Radford.

HAMILTON, Eugene Joseph Samuel, 72, of 204 Cunningham St. in Narrows, went home to be with his Lord from Giles Memorial Hospital on Saturday, May 31, 2003. Born in Bland County on March 31, 1931, he was a son of the late Clifford and Louella Niday Hamilton. Gene was employed as a heavy equipment operator on construction and was a veteran of the U. S. Army in the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his wife, Claire Hare Hamilton, a daughter, Connie Sue Hamilton, three sons, Lester, Ronnie and Clifford Hamilton, a sister, Patsy and three brothers, Charlie, Jimmy and Marshall. Surviving are his wife, Florence C. Hamilton of Pulaski; a son, Joey Hamilton of Pulaski; a daughter, Sabrina H. McMillan of Richmond; four grandchildren, C. J. Hamilton of Narrows, Jason Huffman of Christiansburg, Michael Huffman of Richmond; and a granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; a stepgreat-granddaughter; a stepdaughter, Sherri; a sister, Lois H. Williams of Pilot Mountain, N.C.; five brothers, Wallace, Buford, Kenneth Hamilton, all of Narrows, Jerry Hamilton of Bland, Jackie Hamilton of Wytheville; daughter-in-law Jenny Hamilton Martin of Narrows; son-in-law, Benny Huffman of Newport; a God-sent friend, Charlie Clark of Narrows; and a special friend, Beverly Conley. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at 2 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke, with Charlie Clark and Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in Sunrise Cemetery at Linside, W.Va. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.

John David “J.D.” Hamilton, 85, of Winston-Salem died May 9 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Washington County, Va., May 13, 1917 to John Carl and Margie DeBusk Hamilton. He was devoted to his family and loved the Lord. He was a member of Hanes United Methodist Church and had retired from Hanes Knitting with 45 years of service. he enjoyed gospel singing and had a love for animals.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Lucy Mitchell Hamilton, of the home; two daughters, Betty Lewis and husband Phil Foster, and Cathy Hallford and husband Mike, all of Clemmons; two grandchildren, David Settle and Beth Payne and husband Kevin; and 11 step-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Hanes United Methodist Church with Rev. Jimmy Lawton and Rev. Don Ashe officiating, and burial followed in Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons.

HANSFORD, John William, 76, of 254 North Jefferson Ave., Pulaski, Va., died Sunday, March 30, 2003, in the Pulaski Community Hospital. He was born on December 10, 1926 in Romney, W.Va. and was the son of the late Howard Hickman Hansford and Stella Sutphin Hansford. He was also preceded in death by a son, Ernest William Hansford. He was a veteran in the U.S. Army, having served as a PFC in World War II in the Asiatic Pacific and also in Japan. He was a member of the Pulaski VFW Post #1184. Surviving are sister, Donnie Johnson, Pulaski; cousins, William Warden, Radford, Va., Bonnie Horton, Hillsville, Va., Darlene Sutphin, Hillsville, Va., Pauline Slusher, Clarksville, Tenn., Garrett Hansford, Rollins, Md., Doris Keniry, Palm Springs, Calif.; two special friends, Jr. Rash, Draper, Va., Mike Worrell, Draper, Va. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. from Stevens Funeral Chapel, Pulaski, with Rev. William Perkins officiating. The Pulaski VFW Post #1184 will conduct the military graveside rites after the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Lewis Jerry Hare, Sr. age 80 of 1019 Commerce Street, Pulaski passed away Monday May 5, 2003 at his home. Born February 4, 1923 in Texas, Md., he was the son of the late Jerry Wesley Hare and Estey Victoria Hare. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II. He was a member of the Valley Road International Church of Christ, Pulaski. Surviving are: his wife, Catherine Daisy Hare, Pulaski; daughters, Mary Dee Corbett, Orlando, Fla., Linda L. Jones, Pulaski; sons, Lewis Jerry Hare, Jr., Jessup, Md., James Wesley Hare, Md.; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; brothers, Elmer Hare, Glen Burnie, Md., Lawrence Hare, Hanover, Pa. Funeral service will be conducted Thursday 2 p.m. at the Valley Road International Church of Christ, Pulaski with Rev. Jim Argenbright officiating. Interment will follow at the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin with full military honors conducted at the graveside by the V. F. W. Post 1184. The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon from 1 p.m. until service time at the church. Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski is handling the arrangements for the family.

HARMAN, Charles Wesley, (C.W.), 79, of Floyd, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2003. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific with the First Calvary Division and was a recipient of the Bronze Star. He was a charter member of the Floyd V.F.W. Post #7854. He is a director of the Bank of Floyd, past director of the Citizens Telephone Co-op and was formerly an agent for Rockingham Mutual Insurance Company. He was the founder of C.W. Harman & Son Farm Store in 1960. Survivors include his wife, Margaret H. Harman of Floyd; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Linda Harman, Roanoke, Allen and Anne Harman, Floyd, Donnie and Susan Harman, Mount Airy, N.C.; grandsons, Brian Harman and wife, Desirae of Willis, Matthew Harman, Roanoke, Kyndall Harman, Mount Airy, N.C.; granddaughter, Danielle Goins, Mount Airy, N.C.; great-grandson, Chance Wesley Harman, Willis; sister and brother-in-law, Claudine and Edmund Weddle, Floyd; brother-in-law, Archa Vaughn, Jr. of Pulaski; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, June 22, 2003, at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd, with the Rev. Lawrence Nuckolls and Rev. Mike Varner officiating. Burial will be in Topeco Cemetery, with Military Honors by Floyd V.F.W. Post #7854 and American Legion Post #127. HARRIS, Beatrice Dola Fowler, 81, of Dublin, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2001 in a Winston-Salem, N.C. hospital. She was a retired bookkeeper, and was a member of Dublin United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Lewis Harris. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Joanne and Max Cecil of Pearisburg, Jan Harris of Dublin, and Cindy and Russell Clark of Draper; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Clayton and Carrie Fowler of Green Sea, S.C., Joe and Louise Fowler of Titusville, Fla., and C. M. Fowler of Whiteville, N.C.; one sister, Pauline Harrelson; two grandchildren and spouse, Jennifer and Sam Henderson of San Antonio, Texas, Josiah Clark of Draper, Va.; one great-grandson, Max Henderson; one adopted granddaughter, Megan Parker; five sisters-in-law, Mabel Radcliffe of Blacksburg, Elsie Spicer, Ellen Monroe, Lil Wootton and Dorothy Briggs, all of Roanoke. Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 30, 2001 at 1 p.m. at the Dublin United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Travis officiating. HARRIS, Alma Cox, 86, of Radford, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, November 30, 2000. She was the daughter of the late V. B. and Elizabeth Cox and the widow of Roscoe Clinton Harris. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Oscar, Teddy and Coolidge Harris, and a sister, Lottie Conrad. She was a member of the Radford Christian Church since 1948 and remained very active in the Godbey-Pugh-Young Womens Circle. Mrs. Harris also leaves behind many cherished church friends and neighbors. Surviving are one brother, Jep Cox, Chesapeake Beach, Md.; and two sisters, Edna Burton, Floyd and Pauline O'Neill, Lothian, Md.; also special nieces, Liz Burton Lee, Vinton, and Mary Lynn Conrad Camper, Daleville; and many other beloved nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, December 4, 2000, at the Radford Christian Church with the Rev. Dennis Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery. Lora Jane Hash, 43, of Christiansburg, Virginia, departed this life on Saturday, June 14, 2003, at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center. She was born in Radford on October 24, 1959. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruben Hash, Sr., Eula Hash Gaither; Stepfather, Raymond Gaither Sr., other siblings. She was a 1979 graduate of Pulaski County High School. She graduated from Radford University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and minors in Psychology and Social Work. She completed her internship through the Pulaski County Office on Youth, during which time she was voted Who's Who Among America's Young Women. She was employed by the Growing Tree Daycare as a supervisor and preschool teacher. She was a member of Christian Growth Center Church where she served on the praise and worship team and was involved in children's ministry. She leaves to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy, two sons, Andrae S. Hash and Tazmond M. Hash of Christiansburg, VA; two sisters, Minister Valinda Hash-Peoples of Pulaski, VA; Charlene (Anthony) Hale of Jonesboro, GA; seven brothers Rev. Gary (Colette) Hash, Harold (Bonnie) Hash of Pulaski, VA; Bert Hash Sr., Aberdeen, MD; Rev. Alton (Faith) Hash of Pickerington, OH; Rev. Howard (Debbie) Hash of Tulsa, OK; Pastor Robert Jones of Houston, TX; Raymond GaitherJr., Tulsa, OK; a special friend, Teresa Woodyard of Christiansburg, VA and a host of relatives and friends. A celebration service will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2003, at 2 p.m., at Christian Growth Center Church, 1850 Electric Way, Christiansburg, VA. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday, June 18, 2003, from 7-8:30 p.m. Interment will be at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Christiansburg, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the fund established for Andrae and Tazmond Hash through Community National Bank, Post Office Box 1060, Pulaski, VA 24301. The family may be contacted at the home of Rev. Gary Hash, 139-11th Street, Pulaski. Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home in Roanoke is in charge of arrangements.
