Todd Korth, Scout.com: Rodgers, Green Bay’s top draft pick this year, signed a five-year contract last Saturday that’s worth $7.655 million, but includes escalator clauses that could considerably raise the value. Rodgers received a $1.5 million signing bonus and $620,000 roster bonus as part of the deal this year, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette. That money is paid upfront. He is scheduled to receive a $3.01 million option bonus in 2006. Including his base salaries of $230,000 this year and $310,000 next season, Rodgers will earn $5.67 million in his first two NFL seasons.
Rodgers’ contract includes escalator clauses if he becomes the starting quarterback in place of Brett Favre. If Rodgers plays at least 50 percent or more of the snaps, his base salaries will jump $625,000 per season from 2007 to 2009, and a $1 million from 2007 to 2009. If Rodgers is the starting QB for the Packers from 2006 through 2009, he will add $8.25 million to his salaries from 2007-09 because the escalators don’t kick in until 2007. If Favre retires after 2006 and Rodgers takes over as the full-time starter in 2007 through 2009, he’ll add $5.25 million to his salaries. If he doesn’t become the starter till 2008, he’ll add $2.2 million to his salary.
Rob Demovsky, Green Bay Press Gazette: The contract extension that Aaron Rodgers signed last Friday contains $63.52 million in new money. According to a source familiar with the contract, the Green Bay Packers quarterback will make a total of $12.9 million this season – that's $320,000 of his original $680,000 base salary already paid under his old contract, plus $12.58 million in new money to be paid the rest of this season.
Rodgers will be owed a roster bonus of $7.42 million in March 2009. A total of $20 million of the deal is guaranteed. Much of the remainder of the deal is due in non-guaranteed base salaries of $680,000 in 2009, $6 million in 2010, $7.25 million in 2011, $8 million in 2012, $9.25 million in 2013, $10.5 million in 2014. The deal also contains annual workout bonuses of $500,000 beginning in 2009.
Aaron Wilson, Scout.com: Rodgers' five-year, $130.75 million contract extension includes a $35 million signing bonus and a total of $54 million guaranteed, according to a league source with knowledge of the deal. His base salary for 2013 is $4.5 million, and his salary-cap figure is $12 million. In 2014, Rodgers is due a $900,000 base salary and a $9.5 million roster bonus guaranteed for skill and injury. His salary-cap figure is $17.9 million. He has annual $500,000 workout bonuses. In 2015, Rodgers is due a $1 million base salary and another $9.5 million roster bonus guaranteed for skill and injury. He also has a $600,000 roster bonus paid $37,500 per game he's active. His salary-cap figure is $19.6 million. In 2016, his base salary is $11.5 million. He's also due a $600,000 roster bonus paid $37,500 per game he's active. His salary-cap figure is $19.6 million. In 2017, Rodgers is due a $12.55 million base salary. He's also due a $600,000 roster bonus paid $37,500 per game active. His salary-cap figure is $20.65 million. In 2018, Rodgers is due a $19.8 million base salary, a $600,000 roster bonus paid $37,500 per game active and carries a $20.9 million salary-cap figure. In 2019, Rodgers is due a $20 million base salary and a $37,500 per game active roster bonus for a total of $600,000. His salary-cap figure is $21.1 million.
