Step One:

  1. Write down reasons to quit that are important to YOU – Post this list where you can see it EVERY DAY

  2. SET A DATE (some time within the next 30 days)

  3. TELL FRIENDS/FAMILY

    • Let people know that you are planning on quitting

    • Tell smoking friends that you don’t want them to give you a cigarette

    • Ask for encouragement




Step Two:

Write down

  1. Your TRIGGERS: Tired? - Bored? - Hungry? - Fidgety? – Anxiety? – Sadness? – Happiness?

  2. Your FEELINGS that came from smoking each cigarettes: Relaxed - Less bored - Helped you wake up/ Fall Asleep

  3. Your REPLACEMENT BEHAVIOR




  1. Write down REWARDS you will give yourself for not smoking

Step Three:

Consider using Medications/Nicotine Replacement Therapy and use them correctly

Talk to you doctor about Medications:

  1. Bupropion SR (WELBUTRIN)

  2. Varenicline (CHANTIX)


Most commonly used Over-The-Counter Methods:

  1. Nicotine Gum

  2. Nicotine Patch

  3. Nicotine Lozenge



Step Four:

  • Remove ALL cigarettes and other tobacco from your Home, Car, and Work

(EVEN YOU JUST IN CASE PACK!)




  • Get rid of things that remind you of smoking:

    • Clean your car

    • Wash you clothes





Step Five:

  • QUIT!!!!!!!!!

  • Keep busy

  • Stay away from triggers

  • Manage your cravings

  • REMEMBER TO REWARD YOURSELF
