housing opportunity seminar and neighborhood bus tour on Oct. 3 Free event will provide information on funding opportunities for homebuyers interested in moving into the city of Atlanta ATLANTA – Atlanta City Councilmember Cleta Winslow is inviting potential homebuyers to a free housing opportunity seminar from 8:30 a.m. until noon on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at Atlanta City Hall, 55 Trinity Avenue, SW. The seminar will be held in the City Council Chamber, second floor. To register call 404-330-6047. City has empowerment zone money that they must spend by the end of the year. The funds are available for homebuyers interested in purchasing a home within the city of Atlanta and within the following communities: Atlanta University Center Grady Homes Mechanicsville Old Fourth Ward Pittsburg Vine City/English Avenue Lakewood Heights Marietta Industrial Village of Castleberry Peoplestown Capital Heights Summerhill Herndon Homes Englewood Manor Butler Street Magnolia Park Chosewood Park Cabbagetown Antoine Graves Reynoldstown Grant Park South Atlanta Villages of Carver The seminar will include a brief informational session about housing funds that are available from the Housing Division of the Atlanta Department of Planning & Community Development, the Atlanta Development Authority, First American Financial Mortgage Corporation and The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The City of Atlanta Mortgage Assistance Program (MAP) currently provides loans of up to $50,000 for qualified low-to-moderate income home buyers. The city through the Atlanta Renewal Community agency is taking applications now through participating lenders. Applicant’s annual household income cannot exceed 100% of the HUD Area Median Income (AMI). Income of all household members 18 years or older must be considered (includes house/roommates). MAP funds may be used for down payment assistance, closing costs, gap financing, principal reduction or interest rate reduction. MAP can be leveraged with most other mortgage assistance programs. First American Financial Mortgage Corporation has been approved to loan out $79 million dollars in mortgage money between now and the end of the year. This money will be for F.H.A.,V.A. and conventional loans for purchase and refinancing. The representatives will also answer questions about the $8,000 tax credit available from the government for first time homebuyers, and who qualifies as a first time homebuyer, among other related topics. In addition representatives from the Atlanta Development Authority will discuss the Home Atlanta Down payment Assistance Program which combines Opportunity Down payment Assistance Program (ODAP), Beltline Affordable Housing Trust Fund (BAHTF), Atlanta Affordable Homeownership Program (AAHOP), and Vine City/English Avenue Home Ownership Assistance program (HOAP). These programs provide funding to eligible homebuyers for purchase of a new or existing home. Funding can be used to pay all or a portion of the closing costs and/or the down payment associated with purchasing a home. Following the seminar participants are invited to take part in a bus tour of the various neighborhoods that qualify for funding opportunities.
