LABOURIST WON PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS IN TIANETI REGION

Tbilisi, 16 January ’04, Caucasus Press. - The Central Election Commission has approved labourist Ilia Archemashvili a majority deputy from Tianeti region. According to the final Protocol, he took 3762 electors' votes in the second round of the parliamentary elections. His competitor independent candidate Tamaz Mechiauri - 3 558 votes.



IRINA SARISHVILI-CHANTURIA: REDUCTION OF 7% ELECTION BARRIER WILL BE THE NEW SOURCE OF POLITICAL CORRUPTION FOR THE GOVERNMENT

Tbilisi, 16 January ’04, Prime-News. – Former Leader of "National-Democratic Party" Irina Sarishvili-Chanturia believes that reduction of the 7% election barrier will be the new source of political corruption for the government. As Sarishvili-Chanturia told Prime-News, "decreasing the 7% election barrier is the plan of the State Minister Zurab Zhvania, using which he will have more opportunities for bargaining with the political parties". According to the former leader of "NDP", reduction of the election barrier is unacceptable for her. Chairman of the Central Election Commission Zurab Chiaberashvili supports the Constitutional amendment - reduction of the election barrier from 7 to 5%. Chiaberashvili believes that reduction of the election barrier will enable political parties show results in the elections. The elections barrier was increased from 5 to 7% prior to the 1999 parliamentary elections under the initiative of the former leader of "National-Democratic Party" Irina Sarishvili-Chanturia.



QUOTAS OF STAFFING CEC SHOULD BE RECONSIDERED

MIKHAIL SAAKASHVILI WINS 96,27 PERCENT OF VOTERS
Tbilisi. 15 January ’04, Black Sea Press - Today the CEC of Georgia reported the final results of the 4 January snap presidential elections. According to them, 1,890,256 voters had voted for Mikhail Saakashvili i.e. 96, 27 percent of the total amount of the voters.

Roin Liparteliani - 5,154,000 votes, i.e. 0, 26 percent.

Kartlos Garibashvili - 4,192,000 votes (0, 21%).

Zurab Kelekhsashvili - 1,901,000 votes (0, 10%).

Teimuraz Shashiashvili - 36,398,000 votes (1, 85%).

Zaza Sikharulidze - 4,782,000 votes (0, 24%).

Prior to the presidential elections 2,231,986 voters had been registered. Of them 1,963,556 took part in voting. 13,571 ballot papers had been annulled. All members of the CEC had approved the final protocol except a member of Labor Party Badri Niauri who abstained.

ACCORDING TO RESULTS OF PARALLEL COUNT OF VOTERS CARRIED OUT BY NGO FAIR ELECTIONS, MIKHEIL SAAKASHVILI WAS SUPPORTED BY 96,39% OF ELECTORS

Tbilisi, 14 January ‘04, Black Sea Press. - According to results of parallel count of votes carried out by NGO Fair Elections that monitored Presidential elections of January 4, Mikheil Saakashvili was supported by 96,39% of electors. The Fair Elections reported that 96,16% of Tbilisi voters supported Mikheil Saakashvili. Roin Liparteliani was supported by 0,19% of the voters, Kartlos Garibashvili - by 0,19%, Zurab Kelekhsashvili - by 0,08%, Teimuraz Shashiashvili - by 1,68% and Zaza Sikharulidze - by 0,23%. 0,74% of the electors voted against everybody. According to the final results of parallel count of votes, Mikheil Saakashvili was supported by 96,39% of electors. Roin Liparteliani was supported by 0,23% of the voters, Kartlos Garibashvili - by 0,16%, Zurab Kelekhsashvili - by 0,078%, Teimuraz Shashiashvili - by 1,94% and Zaza Sikharulidze - by 0,22%. 0,32% of the electors voted against everybody.

NGO FAIR ELECTIONS REPORTED ON OFFENCES AT THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS OF JANUARY 4

Tbilisi, 14 January ‘04, Black Sea Press. - NGO Fair Elections reported on offences at the Presidential elections of January 4. The NGO monitored the elections at polling stations. The report went that the regulations of vote were not available at 153 polling stations, lists of electors were not posted up at 45 poling stations, members of election commissions did not check identity cards at 12 polling stations and the voters did not sign the certificate after they got the ballot-paper at 6 polling stations. The principle of secret vote was violated at 36 polling stations, persons without the authority were present in election commissions at 1833 polling stations, ballot-boxes were not sealed up at 22 polling stations, not all members of the commissions signed the final document at 44 polling stations. Claims upon procedure were presented at 1828 polling stations and claims upon count of votes - at 1836 polling stations.
