NEW RIGHTS" WANTS TO FORM A BLOC WITH "INDUSTRIALISTS" AND "NDP-TRADITIONALISTS"

Tbilisi, 26 January ’04, Prime-News. - The political union "New Rights" wants to form a bloc with "Industrialists" and "NDP-Traditionalists". As one of the leaders of "Rights" David Saganelidze told Prime-News, consultations over union are underway only with these two political parties; however talks over cooperation are also held with "Christian-Democratic Alliance" and "People's Party". David Saganelidze believes that union of all right-oriented political powers in joint party would be the best outcome for the country, "however this is impossible at present". The repeated parliamentary elections are scheduled for March 28.



KONSTANTIN GAMSAKHURDIA, ZVIAD GAMSAKHURDIA'S SON, RUNS FOR PARLIAMENT

Tbilisi, 27 January ’04, Black Sea Press. - A son of the first Georgian President Zviad Gamsakhurdia, Konstantin is going to run for parliament during the 28 March parliamentary elections. He will run for parliament on the ticket of the new political movement “Freedom”. He expressed hope that the “Freedom” would be capable to overcome the seven-percent barrier to win the elections. He said that the political movement “Freedom” was supporting the Georgia's new authorities. Konstantin Gamsakhurdia, a son of Zviad Gamsakhurdia, has been named after his grandfather, the outstanding Georgian writer. He is a philologist. Since 1992 he, his wife and two sons have been living in Switzerland. He said that he had always wanted to come back to Georgia.



LALI MOROSHKINA FOUNDS A PARTY

Tbilisi. 27 January ’04, Caucasus Press. - TRIBUNA reports that Deputy Minister for Special Assignments Lali Moroshkina plans to found a political party for protection of interests of national minorities. Moroshkina says her party will participate in March 28 parliamentary elections.


FOURTEEN POLITICAL PARTIES SUBMITTED APPLICATION FOR PARTICIPATION IN PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS

Tbilisi, 26 January ’04, Caucasus Press. - , which formerly entered the bloc , will participate in 28 March parliamentary elections independently. The CEC told Caucasus Press that the leader of this organization, Zviad Dzidziguri has submitted to the CEC all documents necessary for registration. Other thirteen parties which have submitted their applications for today are: United Party, Christian-Conservative Party, Union for Restoration of Justice and National Accord, , Conservative Party, Conservative (Monarchist) Party, God's Children's Union, , Party of Friendship of Peoples and Justice, political union , Party of Fair Development of Georgia , , and Party of National Dignity. The CEC has already registered Chritsian-Democratic Party, God's Children's Union, and Party of Friendship of Peoples and Justice. The participants of the elections, which have no representatives in Parliament, are to submit their applications and 50 signatures of their supporters by 6 pm today.For the parties which have representatives in Parliament the deadline is 6 pm January 31.



LABOR PARTY TO RUN IN PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS




Tbilisi, 26 January ’04, www.rustavi2.com. - Labor Party of Georgia will participate in early parliamentary elections scheduled on March 28, 2004 - Labor Party leader Shalva Natelashvili said the news conference held at the Party's central office today. "We share the opinion and multiple appeals of the citizens of Georgia, and despite the illegitimacy of these elections from every point of view, we decided to participate in them" - Natelashvili stated. Labor Party leader urges this is the only classical political party with firm political ideology and stable political platform, which others obviously lack, consequently, the parties which always merge into pre-election political blocks and alliances, will fail to undertake significant reforms in the state. Natelashvili intends to hold consultations with some of the political organizations in Georgia; however, he definitely will not integrate with them.




CATHOLICOS-PATRIARCH: WE'LL SOON ENTER SUKHUMI AND TSKHINVALI UNDER THE NEW FLAG

Tbilisi. 24 January ’03, Caucasus Press. - "Territorial integrity of Georgia will be soon restored under the new national flag," Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia the Second stated after the ceremony of consecration of the new national flag yesterday. "We will soon enter Sukhumi and Tskhinvali under this flag. This flag will unite the whole Georgia," Ilia the Second stressed. The ceremony of consecration of the national flag of Georgia was held in Svetitskhoveli Cathedral in the ancient Georgian capital of Mtskheta yesterday. The ceremony was officiated by Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia the Second, who consecrated five flags, one which will be hoisted in front of the Parliament by President-elect Mikheil Saakashvili on the inauguration day January 25. Two flags will be raised over the State Chancellery and Municipality of Tbilisi.



RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS FOR REGISTRATION OF POLITICAL PARTIES STARTED IN CEC

Tbilisi, 23 January ‘04, Black Sea Press. - Receipt of applications for registration of political Parties for Parliamentary elections after proportional system of March 28, 2004 started in Central Election Commission (CEC) of Georgia. The political Parties without representation in Parliament must submit the applications before January 26. They must submit, besides, 50,000 signatures of their supporters before February 4. The Parties represented in the current Parliament must present the applications before 6 p.m. of January 30. They need not present the lists of signatures. Correctness of the applications will be checked in CEC during two days. If mistakes are found, the parties will have three-day term for improvement. As BLACK SEA PRESS got to know in CEC, registration of political Parties would be over at 6 p.m. of February 7.
