EAST RADFORD, VA., July 5.-Jacob Woods Dudley died here to-day of neuralgia of the heart while sitting in a chair. He was a builder and contractor. He was born in Pulaski County about sixty years ago, and leaves six brothers and two sisters, all of this neighborhood. They are W. R. Henry S., Jasper, L. P., Walden and M. F. Dudley, and Mrs. Elizabeth Morehead, of Pulaski, and Mrs. D. K. Sturtevant, of Pulaski County. The body was taken to-night to the Sturtevant farm for burial to-morow afternoon. The Masons will conduct the service. Mr. Dudley never married.

William Frederick Dula, 83, a long-time resident of Pulaski, died at a hospital in Washington, D.C. on May 28, 2003. He was a retired Internal Revenue Service agent and served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Dula was born in Beaver, W.Va. on March 5, 1920. He was he son of the late James R. Dula and Sadie Brookshire Dula. Mr. Dula graduated from Shepherd’s College in Shepherdstown, W.Va. in 1951, where he was a member of the football team and he received a master’s degree from West Virginia University in 1953. Mr. Dula was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Pulaski. He served there as an usher and a children’s Sunday School teacher. His beloved wife of 50 years, Doris Townley Dula, preceded him in death. His brothers, Elmer, Frank and John Dula and a sister, Edith Dula Crawford, also preceded him in death. Survivors include a son, William Frederick Dula, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Dena Bright, of Wassenaar, The Netherlands; a daughter, Marsha Dula Matthews and son-in-law, Mark Matthews, of Washington, D.C.; a sister, Dorothy Dula Cox and brother-in-law, E.B. Cox of Vinton; seven grandchildren, Stacey, Alice, and Catherine Dula of The Netherlands, and Hunter and James Matthews of Washington, D.C.; sisters-in-law, Frances Dula and Norma Jo Napier; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 3 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Randy Frye officiating. Entombment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Dublin with the Pulaski V.F.W. Post No. 1184 conducting the military gravesite rites. The family will receive friends at Stevens Funeral Home in Pulaski from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday night. Arrangements by Stevens Funeral Home, Inc., Pulaski, Va.

DULA, Doris Townley, 70, of Pulaski, and a retired teacher with the Pulaski County School System, died at a hospital in Washington, D.C. on Monday, August 5, 2002. She was born in East Rainelle, W.Va. on August 25, 1931, and was the daughter of the late Marcus Townley and Grace Bailey Townley. Mrs. Dula taught history at Pulaski High School and Pulaski Middle School in Pulaski, Va. until her retirement in 1985. She particularly enjoyed teaching students in the eighth grade. Mrs. Dula was a native of Rainelle, W.Va. and she graduated from Rainelle High School in 1949 and West Virginia University in 1953. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pulaski and was a volunteer with the Pulaski County Humane Society. Survivors include her husband of 50 years, William Frederick Dula; son and daughter-in-law, William Frederick Dula, Jr. and Dena Bright, Wassenaar, The Netherlands; daughter and son-in-law, Marsha Dula and Mark Matthews, Washington, D.C.; sister, Norma Jo Napier, Pulaski; niece, Jo Ellen Napier, Seattle, Wash.; five grandchildren, Stacy, Alice and Catherine Dula of The Netherlands, Hunter and James Matthews, Washington, D.C. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. from the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Randy Frye officiating. Entombment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Dublin. Dewey Chaffin DUNCAN, age 85,formerly of Pulaski and Roanoke, died Thursday morning at home, 124 Passons Road, Chattanooga, Tenn. 37415.
Born in Pulaski, April 23, 1899, the son Of the late Charles DUNCAN and Mariah PUCKETT DUNCAN, he was an employee of the Appalachian Power Co. for 39 years, and was director of the Appalachian Safety program for 29
years. He attended Roanoke college, Lynchburg College , and Marshall College. He was a 1ifelong member of the Kiwanis Club and The American Legion. He was a member of the Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church, Roanoke. He is survived by his wife, Mrs Rose Anne BEVINS Duncan; two sisters,
Mrs. Mary BROOKS, Gallagher, WV, Mrs. Annie D. WOOLWINE, Bluefield WV.
A memorial service will be held in Pulaski at a future time.

Tommy Elvis Duncan, 40, of Roanoke, formerly of Hiwassee, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2003. He was employed at Salon FX and will be remembered with smiles and laughter. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy E. Duncan and is survived by his mother, Alice R. Duncan; and family, Roy, Lynn, and Ananda Duncan; Perry, Janice and Hannah Duncan; David, Carol, Jeremy and Ashley Duncan; Joshua, Alice, Victoria and Josh Duncan; Jacob, Christy, and Luke Duncan, as well as several very close friends. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the New Life Ministries, Gracetown, Va. by Rev. Perry Duncan, Rev. Vickie Akers, and Rev. Justin Quesenberry. DUNCAN, Martha Jane Viars, 87, of 3006 Honaker Road, Draper, passed away
Monday evening, January 15, 2001, at Birdmont Manor-Asbury Center,
Wytheville. Born June 29, 1913, in Wythe County she was the daughter of the
late James Viars and Rosetta Peak Viars. One sister, Maudie Viars and five
brothers, Harless, Erving, Sprail, Monroe, Bert, and Jim Viars preceded her
in death. She is survived by her husband, Charlie Ellis Duncan of Draper;
daughters, Mrs. Carl (Linda) Tucker of Lexington, N.C., Mrs. Clarence
(Velva) Pernell of Mansfield, Ohio; son, Rev. John Douglas Duncan of Barren
Springs; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services
will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Bower Funeral Home Chapel, Pulaski with
the Rev. H.T. and Betty Atkinson officiating. Interment will follow at the
Memorial Christian Church Cemetery. Visitation will be anytime after 2 p.m.
Wednesday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday
evening at the Bower Funeral Chapel. Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski is
handling the arrangements.

DUNFORD, Haynes Moran, (Monk), 84, of Christiansburg and formerly of Pearisburg, died at his home Tuesday, October 10, 2000 after a long illness. Born in Giles County on June 14, 1916, he was a son of the late Wirt and Kate Turner Dunford. He had been employed as a carpenter and was a veteran of the U.S. Army in WW II. He was preceded in death by five children. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Harvey L. and Leda McGuire Dunford of Pembroke; two grandsons, Chris and wife, Cherie Dunford and Timothy Dunford, all of Pembroke; two great-grandchildren, C. J. and Chelsea Dunford, both of Pembroke; a brother and sister-in-law, Wallace and Bobbie Dunford of Pearisburg; a special niece and nephew, Junior and Joyce Keffer of Pearisburg; a special friend, Maynard Doss of Christiansburg. A memorial service will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke. Private burial will follow cremation in the Dunford Cemetery at Pearisburg. Friends may call at the home of Harvey Dunford at 1016 Cascade Drive in Pembroke.

The funeral for Joseph Fred Dunford, 67, of 4804 Eden Drive, Roanoke, who died Oct. 17, 2001, at his home, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home in Martinsville with the Rev. J.D. Harmon officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home following Saturday's service.
Dunford was born in Wytheville on July 15, 1934. He was a son of Elizabeth Brinkley Dunford, who lives in Wytheville, and the late Ernest Dunford.
He retired from Pulaski Furniture Co.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife, Betty Dunford of the home; one daughter, Freida Adams of Roanoke; three brothers, Howard and Roy Dunford, both of Wytheville, and Ralph Dunford of Bassett; one sister, Sue Dunford of Wytheville; and one grandchild.

DUNKLEY, Sue Vaught, 72, of Wytheville died Monday, May 8, 2000 at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Thomas O. and Annie McClintock Vaught and was retired from the Wythe County School System. She was a member of the Crockett Chapel United Methodist Church where she held many positions. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Loretta Fuller, Ann Early and Lucille Vaught. She is survived by her husband, James E. Dunkley, Sr. of Wytheville; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Cathy and Donnie Pattison of Wytheville, Kay Dunkley of Fredericksburg, Susan and Russell Fisher of Wytheville, Helen and Harry Moore of Cripple Creek; one son, Jimmy and Jacqueline Dunkley of Cripple Creek; one sister, Bonnie V. Crigger of Virginia Beach; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Thomas O. "Tom" Vaught, George A. and Jane Vaught, Mack B. and Wanda Vaught, all of Wytheville; seven grandchildren, Jill Brewster, Kelly Thomas, Jon Fisher, Jared Fisher, Jamie Dunkley, Jeff Dunkley, Jessica Moore; two great-grandchildren, Meagan Brewster and Shania Thomas; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be Thursday 11 a.m. in the Crockett Chapel United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Jeff Callahan with the interment in the Gleaves Family Cemetery, Cripple Creek. Roy Sidney Dunnigan, age 80 of 5517 Thornspring Heights Lane, Pulaski passed away Thursday, June 26, 2003 at his home. Born September 15, 1922 in Allisonia, Va. he was the son of the late Charles Grantham Dunnigan and Jeanette Smith Dunnigan. His wife Lillie Mae Fowler Dunnigan, two sisters Mary Jane Henley and Ruth Seagle, three brothers, Franklin William Dunnigan, James Wesley Dunnigan, and Raymond Lee Dunnigan preceded him in death. He was a member of the Thornspring United Methodist Church. He was retired from the Radford Army Ammunition Plant with over 40 years of service. Surviving are: his son, Paul Edward Dunnigan, Dublin; daughter and son-in-law which he resided with, Jean Ellen and Donald Anderson, Pulaski; daughter, Jane Ella Hodge, Pulaski; three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at the Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski. Interment will follow at the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday evening at the Bower Funeral Chapel, 1631 Bobwhite Blvd., Pulaski. David Allison DYER, age 74, of Roanoke and Bedford County. died suddenly Monday in Farmville while on a business trip. A native of Wythe County, he was the son of the late Burton Saunders DYER and Arminta ALLISON DYER. Mr. Dyer had been in the insurance business in Roanoke for fifty years and was owner of the David A. Dyer Insurance Agency. He was a member of the American Institute of Professional Association Group Insurance Administrators. He was also a member of Second Presbyterian Church where he had served as secretary of the Sunday School for thirty years and as a member of the Board of Deacons. He was a member of the Shenandoah Club, the, Men's Garden Club and a former member of a number of civic groups. He is survived by his widow, the former Ruth LAUGHON of Pulaski, a son. Dr. Robert Kent DYER of Albemarle, N.C.; a daughter, Mrs, John A THAXTON of Durham, N.C.; two sisters, Mrs. Ballard GROSECLOSE of Pulaski and Mrs. Leland SANFORD of Farmville; and five grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. DYER celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in 1973 at their country home in Bedford County- Funeral services will be conducted at Second Presbyterian Church by the Rev. William Kline and Dr. A. H. Hollingsworth, Jr. at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, followed by interment at Evergreen. Friends may call at Oakey's, Roanoke. Funeral service for Allen R. ECKMAN, Camden, N.J., who died May 7, was held May 9 at Camden.
He was a first cousin of Hensel ECKMAN, Pulaski, and the last ECKMAN relative. The deceased was associated with the Philadelphia Inquirer and Evening Telegraph for some years and later became city editor of the Public Ledger. More recently Mr. ECKMAN was connected with the Department of Revenue and Civil Works Administration in Camden. He visited Mr. and Mrs. ECKMAN here at “Idyll Brook” some years ago.

Mrs. Willie Marie Eden, 83, of Barboursville, went home to be with God in the arms of Jesus, Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, at Henson Mortuary by Rev. Billie Scott Mick and Rev. David Vickers. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. She was born April 16, 1917, in Pulaski, Va, a daughter of the late Guy Harmon and Edith Blanche Mabe Frost. Mrs. Eden was a homemaker and member of Pea Ridge United Methodist Church and the Martha Circle of the church. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Bias. Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Edward H. Eden; two daughters and sons-in-law, Clara Jean and Freddie J. Warden of Barboursville and Judith Marie and Joseph J. Ware of West Hamlin; two sisters, Mary L. Brown of Huntington and Hazel Meadows of Cape Coral Fla.; two nieces, Janet Copley of Proctorville, Ohio, and Joyce McClain of Brandon, Fla.; six grandchildren Teresa Ann Byers of Barboursville, Kristin M. Warden of Barboursville, James E. Ware of Huntington, Susan L. Townsend of Mingo Junction, Ohio, Rebecca J. Ferguson of West Hamlin and Katherine J. Ware of West Hamlin; and nine great-grandchildren Jean Ann Sheppard of Chapmanville, Jeremy Byers of Barboursville, Jared Ferguson of West Hamlin, Lee Ferguson of West Hamlin, Jeff Ferguson of Huntington, Jacob Townsend of Mingo Junction, Ohio, Matthew Townsend of Mingo Junction, Ohio, and Michael and Christine Raines of Huntington. The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to Doctors Kumar, Mahboob, Bhatia and staff, the nursing staff of 4-South Cabell Huntington Hospital, the staff of the Dialysis Center at Cabell Huntington Hospital and Hospice of Huntington. Henson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
