Samuel Frazier was son of Thomas Frazier & wife Alia or Mahala Thompson (her Aunt0 they being first cousins.

Sarah Thompson who married Joseph Scott Thompson was his first cousin, being daughter of Hance Thompson & his first wife Eliza Henderson. Maggie J. Patton was born at New Rumley, O daughter of David Patton & his wife Sarah Rutan. She & her husband Samuel George Thompson had two children born near Kilgore, Carroll Co, O

Margaret O.A. McNary was daughter of Matthew Reed McNary & his wife Margaret Anderson. She is now on a visit to her daughter, Mrs Hibbs at Canton, O.

He says that his Uncle Andrew paid $25 to engage passage on an old sail boat & that a new sailboat was leaving a couple of days later & all of the others wanted to go on it, but he would not lose his $25 or break his word. They were 15 weeks on the sea & the new boat evidently failed to weather the storm as it was never heard from. Mr T. is in check room at Central Y.M.C.A.

He said it might be well to see his uncle Thomas Thompson's unmarried daughter, Alice Thompson living alone in Germano (formerly Jefferson) O right in the town who is hard of hearing & uses a trumpet. Her brother Elmer lives on the farm. The other children of Thomas are dead.

He said his sisters, Mary, Rachel, Margaret & Eliza all died single as did also his brother Hance. The other five who grew up as record shows were married.

John W. Waggoner was in Civil War 4 years.

At residence of Mrs Clara Kilgore 1125 N. High, Columbus, O Mch 17, 1926 abt 3 PM

Mr P.E. Kilgore came a little before three & drove me about. We didn't find this woman, but the landlady of the rooming house said she was divorced & we learned from her & a neighbor that her husband was of the London, Ohio Kilgores who P.E. said were a lot of rough necks. She is listed as a nurse, widow of Charles.

We were admitted by Mrs Grace Kilgore Evans who is a handsome buxom full round faced woman of 50 yrs, unwrinkled & proud of being a Kilgore. She says her father Edward Porter Kilgore was born Apr 7, 1842 at Kilgore's bridge abt 8 miles S.E. of Chillicothe, O. He was a conductor on the RR & was an intensely religious man & would read no newspaper but the Christian Advocate on Sunday.

He was the youngest of the family. He died Jany 15, 1893 & had a sister, Isabella who died unmarried, a brother James who died while in the Civil War, but I believe left some children and a brother Irvin Allen Kilgore who was killed on the RR in 1893 leaving an only child, Herbert F. Kilgore living at 24 W. Patterson Ave, mgr of Mens Wear shop. Directory gives his wife as Mae J. The father of Edw. P., Isabella, James & Irvin Allen, was Joseph Warren Kilgore (remarkable as being same name as P.E.'s father) who also died in 1893.

Joseph Warren had brothers, Andrew, Samuel & James Kilgore. This Andrew was wealthy & laid out the town of Waverly, O county seat of Pike Co & his descendants live in Cincin, O where they control the traction lines, one of his sons, Joseph (or possibly John ) was in the Ohio Legislature. She said her Kilgores were Scotch Irish & came from Westd Co, Pa. Said her mother, who is listed as a clairvoyant, was 75 yrs old & had married a Rondo? for her 2d husband, but kept Kilgore name Tel Univ 9063. I made arrangements to go back tomorrow afternoon.

We went to 1487 Penn Ave & a man said he had lived there since last June & said he didn't know John Andrew Thompson but the lady next door said his daughter could be found at the above number, the home of her husband's father. We found Mrs French Fulton here nursing her mother & arranged with her to see her father, John Andrew Thompson at No 403 14th Ave after 7 Pm. See pages 169 175.

We found their son & as we came away, met Mrs Cowie whose maiden name was Pritchard. She says her husband & his brother, John are from Scotland, having come over about 15 yrs ago. She knows nothing about a Robert B. Cowie but says there are some Cowies out Arlington Way. Ask W.L. Mattoon

Mrs Jack says her husband, James Edgar Jack who is not here now, evidently separated, was born in the neighborhood of Amanda, Fairfield Co, O about 1873, son of Arthur Jack. Arthur died at Kingston, Ross Co, O about 3 yrs ago aged about 74 yrs & his widow whose maiden name was Sallie Butler died Jany 10, 1926 at her daughters, Mrs Mary Bookwalter's in Springfield, O. Arthur had brothers, Thomas & Joe Jack both of whom died at Kingston, O. See if they left any wills. Thomas had the following children:

Will & Frank (twins) Will lives in Calif. Frank is dead. was a druggist here where he worked for Brown.

Charlie, cashier of Ross Co Bank at Chillicothe, O see my record. See book 14 p 232. last week of Sept 1925.

Laura, single, lives in Kingston,

Joseph had five or six children. He died in Kingston, O 22 to 25 yrs ago & his widow Alice remarried. Don't recall her name & lives in Lancaster, O aged abt 60 yrs. Of his children she recalls:

Mrs Mary Crumm, a sister of Arthur, Thomas & Joseph lived in Circleville, O & died there about 7 yrs ago up in her 80s. She has a daughter Bina [sic] who married a Mr Portius. He works in the P.O. at Circleville, O & she teaches school here in Columbus, O in the Goodale St Dist & goes back & forth each day on the electric to Circleville. Bina has sisters, Mattie & Ella both single & all three live together in Circleville, O. See them about earlier generations. Her husband's brother Thomas Jack is living in the suburbs about St Louis, Mo & is city editor of the St Louis Globe.

Mrs Mackey is the mother of Andrew M. Jacks who lives at No 65 Southwood, the next house beyond across a side St that comes into Southwood & his wife & her two little girls have come across, we having first gone there, the husband, his sister & her daughter & their step father are all here. Mrs Mackey was Lucy Privett born in Iredell Co N.C. on Mch 18, 1863, daughter of Cade Privett & wife Martha Wooten & who on Oct 12, 1881 married in Iredell Co, N.C. Arthur Ansel Jacks who was born Jany 2, 1867 in Iredell Co, N.C. son of Andrew Jacks & his wife Lucinda Jacks. She remarried after his death & his now Lucinda Seagraves & is stout & hearty, has good mind 83 yrs old & lives at the Franklin Co, O Home.

Mrs Mackey's first husband died in May 1898 here in Columbus, O & is buried in Green Lawn Cemetery. She had two children to him viz born in Columbus, O

At Franklin Co, O Home near Columbus, O Mch 18, 1926 8:44 AM

Mrs Seagraves says she was Lucinda Jacks born in Iredell Co N.C. abt 25 miles from Statesville, on May 14, 1843, daughter of Martin Jacks & his wife Susannah Shores. Her father was born in 1788 she thinks in N.C. & died in Iredell Co N.C. when her last child was born which was in 1874 aged 86 yrs & is buried in Flat Rock Church graveyard in Yadkin Co N.C. but she doesn't think there is any marker. His father was Job Jacks. She remembers him. Said her grandmother died the year she was born & he married again & moved to "Putman Co" where he died. She says he came from England, but don't know what part. Martin Jacks was a Methodist & had one brother & five sisters:

1. Clayton Jacks was married & moved to Indiana when she was a little girl & had a family.

2. Rhoda married Jake Osborn & lived in Iredell Co & had 2 girls.

3. Nancy married Anderson Swinney [Sivinney?] & lived in Iredell Co. No issue.

4. Lydia married William Campbell & lived in Iredell Co & had 6 or 7 children.

5. Purlina married Watt (or Walter) Denny & lived in Iredell Co. Had 4 children.

6. Fannie married Pinckney Lindsay & lived in Iredell Co. Had 4 children. These were all by the first wife. Job Jacks was a preacher a Circuit rider in the Meth church & was old when he married his second wife & had no issue by her.

Martin Jacks had seven children viz:

1. Elizabeth Jacks married Owen Wooton lived in Iredell Co N.C. & had 3 children. She & all of her brothers & sisters except my informant are dead.

2. Mary Jacks married David Bell & lived in Yadkin Co N.C. Had 3 children

3. David Reed Jacks married Mary Copley & lived in Yadkin Co & had 4 children viz: Belle, Dora, another girl & Greeley.

7. Joseph Lee Jacks, the youngest married Sallie McCrary & lived in Iredell Co & had about 8 children viz:

Lucinda Jacks in Apr 1865 in Yadkin Co, NC. to Andrew Jacks who was 2 or 3 yrs older than her. The flood swept away her records & belongings. He was son of Joe Jacks who came

she thinks from NY but was no relation. He died in Yadkin Co & she remembers seeing him once. His children were:

Andrew, her husband who died 4 or 5 yrs after their marriage & he too is buried at Flat Rock graveyard. She had two children to him viz:

II. Mary Lucinda Jacks born Dec 5, 1868 She was 2 or 3 yrs old when her father died. She married John Comer. Both living in Bexley, O east of here & has six children.

Mrs Jacks married 2d Mch 12, 1871 to George Seagraves & he is living, but she says "he ought to have been dead years ago". To him, she had two children viz:

III. Martin Vallandigham Seagraves Born Oct 24, 1872 lives down toward Winchester, O & is single

IV. Lee Roma Seagraves a girl born Feby 1, 1874 married William King. Both living a mile this side of Reynoldsburg, O where he is a machinist. Has 3 children.


Never heard of the Charlotte N.C. family of Jack. Certainly not in our line & can eliminate.

At State School for the deaf, Columbus, O office of the Superintendent Mch 18, 1926 11:30 Am

The Supt. is Dr John William Jones whose father, Samuel Jones was one of the 18 children of Matthew Jones & his wife Sallie Thoroman, daughter of Samuel Thoroman & his wife Ann Crawford. He has no information concerning the bible record of his grandfather Matthew Jones who was a son of David Jones of whom family tradition says he was in the Revolutionary War. He did however get the leaf from his father's bible giving his record. He had eight children by his first wife & then for his second wife married a widow with four children & had six children by her. Dr Jones remembers seeing Cyrus Hull who married his Aunt Anne Jones & his son Newkirk Hull who was a school teacher, but he knows nothing of any of his descendants nor where he went. He says his Uncle Thomas Jones first went to Iowa, but don't know where & later moved to Wisconsin where he died, leaving a large family of well educated children, one of his sons thinks Wilson was Supt of Public Instruction for the State (living [best guess] about 1900). There was a judge Jones

in Wisconsin who was said to be a son also. One of his married daughters attended the Methodist Centenary here some years ago, but he can't recall her name or address.

His Aunt Sarah Jones married Henry Newland, went west, he thinks to Nebraska. He recalls the names of four children which he thinks is all there were:

2. Isaac, don't know

3. Lina

4. Paul


Henry Newland was a farmer & "didn't amount to much" & taught his children infidelity.

The two leaves, four pages of his father's bible give record as follows:

At residence of Mrs Martha W. Kilgore No 1359 Neil Ave Columbus, O Mch 18, 1926 2:30 PM

Mrs Kilgore & her daughter, Mrs Evans say that Joseph Warren Kilgore's father was a miller at Kilgores Bridge over the Scioto River in Ross Co, O 8 miles from Chillicothe, O toward Jackson, O. He died there & each of his children had homes on the farm.

Joseph Warren Kilgore was married twice. 1st to Elizabeth Wiley who died in 1860 & nine months later he married 2d abt 1861 to Mary Waldren & had one son. He had 3 sons & 1 daughter by his first wife. After his 2d marriage, he moved to Hamilton, Ind where his youngest son was born & his wife died. His children by his first wife were all born in Ross Co, O. He came back to Ross Co to the old home & lived & died with his daughter who never married & is buried there. He died in Aug 1892. Don't know abt his bible record. He was aged abt 84 as Mrs Evans remembers his celebrating his 75th birthday when she was eleven. His children in the order of their ages were as follows:

2. James Kilgore married & lived in Indiana from where he entered the Civil War & died while in the service. He had 5 children born in Indiana

1. Allen Porter Kilgore oldest, died single in Indiana

2. Laura married _____ James & moved to State of Washington

3. Elizabeth married ____James a bro of Laura's husband & went to State of Washington.

4. Charles was a cripple humped back from being injured when a boy. Last heard from, he was single & in Indiana.

5. Morton, the youngest was principal of a Normal School & Business College at Fulton, Ky in 1891

3. Irvin Allen married 1874 to Mrs Josephine Grimm, widow of _____ Grimm. He was a gray haired bachelor when married & they had one child born in Columbus, O & he was a freight conductor & was killed & cut to pieces on the RR on Sept 15? 1893

2. Herbert Fowler Kilgore born say 1883 & married Mary Hurst. Have no issue. Both living at 27 Patterson Ave here.

4. Edward Potter Kilgore born Apr 7, 1842 & died Jany 15, 1893, married 1st 1865 Sarah Jane Doty who died Oct 1866 when her only child was born in Chillicothe, O. He married 2d Jany 21, 1870 in Logan, O Martha Webb Crook born June 21, 1851 in Logan, O daughter of Emanuel Crook & his wife Elizabeth Snyder. They had seven children, oldest & the two youngest twins born in Columbus, the 2d & 3d in Athens, O, 4th & 5th in Logan, O.

1. Forney Kilgore born Oct 1866. His mother said "I call my baby Forney" & died. He was raised in the country near Chillicothe by his Doty grandparents & they know nothing further here about him.

& daughter of ______ Shafer & his wife Sarah Brown. They had one child born in Columbus.

I. Doris Kilgore born May 6, 1898 married Sept 29, 1916 at Columbus, O to Frederick Stehmeyer, born Jany 13, 1888 in Germany, son of Frederick Stehmeyer & wife Louisa. No issue.

Alfred Gregg Kilgore died Mch 2, 1901. Irene Bowland Kilgore died Feby 26, 1901. He died of Pneumonia & she of an operation from which she bled to death. Mrs Kilgore raised the children. Doris & her husband live at 8250 Epworth Blvd Detroit, Mich where he works in Recreation Bldg Apt 205.

3. Luelah Grace, my informant married Nov 19, 1900 in Columbus, O to Ambrose Lambert Evans born June 28, 1839 at East Richland? Belmont Co, O son of John Evans & wife Eliza Kendig. He died June 23, 1911 in Columbus, O. Had one child born here.

I. Martha Faye Evans born Aug 31, 1901. She is at home single, but at present is in NY City.

4. Wiley Lee is single & lives here. He is a meat cutter

5. Lauren B. married June 15, 1901 at Columbus, O To Eva Renss (pro Rice) born Apr 19, 1882 in Columbus, O, daughter of Peter

He was killed in National Stone works, Louisville, Neb June 13, 1924. She is living at 9040 at Mackinaw Ave Mackinaw Apts Detroit Mich. They had two children born in Columbus, O

I. Edward Emanuel b Jany 1, 1902

II. Thelma Lee b Jany 14, 1904. She married & have separated. Edward is single.

6. Henry H. married Jany 1, 1903 at Columbus, O to Daisy Day born July 10, daughter of Isaac Day & wife Romaine Stevenson. Both living in Nashville, Tenn where he is a supervisor on the Tenn central RR. Have three children, the two oldest born in Columbus, & the youngest in Basil, O viz:

I. Grace Romaine born June 20, 1904

II. Ruth Webb born July 29, 1905

III. Charles Henry born June 28, 1907 see below

7. J.W. Dean died Feby 29, 1892

8. L.S. Irene died Feby 14, 1904
Mrs Kilgore married 2d Sept 8, 1904 in Columbus, O to Jacob Frisbie Rundio born Apr 16, 1848 at Lancaster, O & died at Sandusky Soldiers Home Oct 26, 1916. He served in the Civil War for 90 days, was son of Zachariah Rundio & wife Elizabeth. No issue.

I. Grace Romaine Kilgore [see page 198] married June 20, 1923 to Hamilton Williams of Ashland City, Tenn. Both living in Nashville, Tenn where he is a farmer. Have one child born near Ashland City, Tenn.

II. Ruth Webb married Sept 17, 1922 at Ashland City, Tenn to Thomas Jefferson Adkisson born Feby 24, 1898 at Ashland City, Tenn son of Samuel Adkinsson & wife Ruth Flinthoff. Have one child born in Bowling Green, Ky where they lived.

[margin note reads:] He showed me in the Dining room at lunch where 500 deaf & dumb children, all happy, were eating lunch, not an officer in the room. The Institute had its inception in 1829. This should be on 193 page.

At the State Institution for the Feeble Minded, Columbus, O Mch 18, 1926 5:30 PM

These are fine spacious grounds & large buildings abt half a mile back from W. Broad St. The lady in the office sent a boy for Otis Marie & he came in the hall. He is a splendid specimen of physical manhood, handsome & with a fine face 6 ft 1 1/2 in tall & weighs 185 lbs. He says he was born Mch 3, 1883 in WVA, he thinks in Kanawha Co as his parents left there when he was young, son of Charles Marie, & his wife Julia A. Mahaffey.

He married Fronetta Hoop, his first wife June? 1914 at West Union, O & says she died in Nov? 1917. No issue.
See book 15 p 199 where the dates I got were different.

The lady who came to the door said that John Harlan Peairs had moved to No 243 19th Ave Tel Univ 7610 W. I phoned them & found that he was at work on night turn tonight & I arranged to go out between 8 & 9 o'c in the morning.

I was out there at 4:25 PM yesterday & the lady who came to the door said Mr Kilgore was attending his mother's funeral yesterday at Pittsburgh & would not be back until tonight. Tonight, his wife said he would not be back until tomorrow, Friday night & that his mother had died at Wilkinsburgh & that his father's name was Harman Kilgore. I arranged with his wife to write him. She was very cordial & said he would gladly answer.

Mr Peairs has not returned from his work yet, but Mrs Peairs' sister has brought me upstairs to see Mrs Peairs who is sick. She does not know about the first wife, but he has jut now come in, a fine tall handsome man 6 ft 2 in. He was married 1st Nov 14, 1879 in Morgan Co, O to Ida May Barkhurst born Sept 30, 1859 in Morgan Co, O daughter or Reese Barkhurst & wife Mary Mercer. She died Aug 1st, 1903 at Toledo, O & is buried in Green Lawn Cemetery at Toledo, O as is also her youngest daughter, Pearl Peairs & they have markers. They had three children, the oldest born at Rural Dale, Muskingum Co, O, the second & third in Zanesville.

1. Lenna was married Sept 23rd 1903 in the Spring at Toledo, O to Eugene Thompson born June 8, 1879 at Toledo, O son of Edward Hoffman Thompson & wife Allie Gruver. Both living but separated Jany 4, 1917, she at 25 24 Lawrence Ave & he at 14 Columbia Ave Vineland NJ. Had three children all born in Toledo & with her, viz:

2. Grace was married Apr? 20, 1910 at Toledo, O to Louis Hamilton Shilling born Dec 17, 1886 in Morgan Co, O son of Samuel Spencer Shilling & wife Isabella Osborn. Both living at Rural Dale, O where he has a general store. They have one child born in Rural Dale, O viz:

I. Gladys Louise Shilling born July 20, 1912 aged 14 yrs in school

Their P.O. is Blue Rock O living in Blue Rock Tp
3. Pearl M. died single in July 16th 1903 two weeks before her mother & is buried in Toledo, O. Had "Flu" Grippe & pneumonia. Her mother never spoke after she heard of Pearl's death.
Mr Peairs married 2d Sept 2, 1909 at Zanesville, O by Rev Courtney, Meth Epis who has been preaching 55 yrs to Anna Talley born June 22, 1861 in Muskingum Co, O At Zanesville, O dau of John P. Talley & his wife Rebecca Ford. No issue. Mr Peairs is time keeper in the office of the American

At residence of James Butler Finley No 1446 Thurlow Ave Columbus, O Mch 19, 1926 11 AM

Mr Finley is an interior decorator & painter & is away for the day so his wife, a large woman, who received me, says: She says he was born at East Liverpool O & his brother Wilson Finley aged 74 died last year & often talked of the family. Their father was Richard Finley & she has gone upstairs to get his bible.

It is a medium large bible & was published by John E. Potter & Co Phila, Pa but is without date.

The record is as follows:

Richard Finley & Margaret Wilson was married Mch 26, 1846 Richard Finley & Mary Parks was married Mch 18, 1857

James B. Finley & Bertha Bell Shelton (my informant) was married Oct 6, 1910
